Mullein Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Mullein against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: mullein, a flowering plant traditionally used to support respiratory health. The capsule itself is an inactive ingredient.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence for mullein isn't established in the data we hold. The product facts show insufficient reliable evidence to rate it for bronchitis, asthma, cough, migraine headache, or diarrhea — which means studies either haven't been done, are too small, or show mixed results.
If you're considering mullein for one of these uses, talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist about what the current science actually supports.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Mullein is generally well tolerated for short-term use, though human safety data are limited. A couple of case reports describe dermatitis (a skin rash) from direct skin contact with the whole plant or from breathing in plant dust — most often in people who also reacted to other plants.
During pregnancy, safety data aren't sufficient; the facts advise against it. The same goes for breastfeeding — there isn't enough information to know it's safe.
If you're pregnant or nursing, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
Check before you start if you take any blood thinners (anticoagulants) or antiplatelet drugs like warfarin, aspirin, or clopidogrel — mullein extracts do show mild blood-thinning properties in the lab.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.
Mullein may interest you if you want to try a traditional respiratory herb, but know that evidence for its effectiveness isn't established and human safety data are thin. If you take any blood thinner or antiplatelet medication, check with your doctor or pharmacist first — mullein does have a mild blood-thinning effect.
Pregnant or breastfeeding? Skip it unless your doctor says otherwise.

Mullein by Nature's Sunshine Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Nature's Sunshine Mullein has documented interactions with blood thinners (anticoagulants) and antiplatelet drugs through its saponin content.
Lab studies show mullein extracts do increase clotting time — meaning they can thin your blood slightly — but the effect appears mild.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
If you take a blood thinner like warfarin, aspirin, or clopidogrel, or any other anticoagulant or antiplatelet medication, you'll want to run those through the medication checker on this page before starting mullein. Altogether, these interactions span 122 individual medications.
Beyond that, we don't have interaction data for other drug categories with this ingredient. That said, the human safety information on mullein is limited, so it's worth checking your exact medications with your doctor or pharmacist before you add it to your routine.

Mullein
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Lab tests on extracts from different parts of common and dense-flowered mullein plants show that they do have some blood-thinning effects, as they increase the time it takes for blood to clot. This is likely due to at least one of the known constituents of muellein, triterpenoid saponins. However, the effects appear to be mild and results have been inconsistent. Extracts from different plant parts have been show to have varying anticoagulant strengths, with water-based ones being more potent than alcohol-based extracts.
