Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: mullein leaf glycerite liquid extract. Mullein is a plant traditionally used to support respiratory health and ease cough.

The extract is prepared in glycerin, which acts as a carrier and preservative.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see Mullein's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: respiratory health and cough support.
  • We looked for evidence on: Asthma, Bronchitis, Cough, Influenza, Pneumonia, chest congestion — and 2 related terms.
  • The closest evidence on file: Mullein is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Bronchitis (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Mullein is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Asthma, Cough, Influenza, Pneumonia.

The evidence for mullein isn't yet established in our data. We have insufficient reliable evidence to rate it for bronchitis, asthma, cough, diarrhea, or migraine headache.

That doesn't mean it doesn't work — it means well-designed human studies are lacking. If you're considering it for one of these uses, talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist about what the current evidence supports.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Mullein is generally well tolerated for short-term use, though human safety data are limited. One concern: a small number of case reports describe skin rash (dermatitis) after direct contact with the whole plant or inhalation of plant dust; in at least one case, the person also reacted to other plants, so sensitivity may vary.

The safety data advises against mullein during pregnancy and while breastfeeding — there isn't enough information to know it's safe in either situation. If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning either, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this product is right for you.

Minor only

Only Minor-severity interactions are documented for these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Mullein.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Minor.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs.
  • For scale: 122 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

If you take anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs (blood thinners like warfarin, aspirin, or clopidogrel), check your exact medications with the search tool below before starting mullein. The interaction is Minor, but your provider may want to monitor you more closely.

Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs

Lab tests on extracts from different parts of common and dense-flowered mullein plants show that they do have some blood-thinning effects, as they increase the time it takes for blood to clot. This is likely due to at least one of the known constituents of muellein, triterpenoid saponins. However, the effects appear to be mild and results have been inconsistent. Extracts from different plant parts have been show to have varying anticoagulant strengths, with water-based ones being more potent than alcohol-based extracts.
