What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Mushroom Immune Complex against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Mushroom Immune Complex by Solaray
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Solaray's Mushroom Immune Complex contains 3 active ingredients: Reishi Mushroom, Maitake Mushroom, and Shiitake Mushroom. Each is a dried mushroom extract traditionally used to support immune function.
The capsules also contain inactive ingredients — cellulose, silica, and magnesium stearate — which are binders and fillers.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence for what these mushrooms actually do isn't well established in our data. Reishi has been tested for high cholesterol and is rated possibly ineffective for that use; evidence is too thin to rate it for altitude sickness, Alzheimer's disease, or athletic performance.
Maitake's evidence is similarly limited — we don't have enough data to rate it for hay fever, cancer-related anemia or diarrhea, or chronic fatigue. Shiitake is rated possibly ineffective for dental plaque and lacks sufficient evidence for atherosclerosis, cancer, chemotherapy side effects, or anemia.
If you're taking this for immune support specifically, that claim isn't one our data addresses.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
All three mushrooms are generally well tolerated when used short-term. The most common side effects are mild: dizziness, dry mouth, itching, nausea, rash, and stomach upset with Reishi; diarrhea and stomach pain with Maitake; and bloating, nausea, and diarrhea with Shiitake.
Respiratory allergy to mushroom spores can occur, causing sore throat or runny nose. Raw shiitake or contact with shiitake hyphae can cause a skin reaction resembling whiplash marks, and in mushroom workers, inhaling shiitake spores has triggered a serious lung inflammation.
Reishi should be avoided in pregnancy and while breastfeeding because there isn't enough safety data. The same applies to concentrated Maitake and Shiitake supplements in pregnancy and lactation — food amounts are likely fine, but supplement doses haven't been studied enough.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking Mushroom Immune Complex, double-check if you're on warfarin or other blood thinners — Maitake has a documented case of raising warfarin levels dangerously. Also screen blood pressure medications, diabetes drugs, and immunosuppressants (used after transplant or for autoimmune disease).
If you take psychiatric or heart medications metabolized by CYP2D6 — such as certain antidepressants or beta-blockers — mention this product to your pharmacist, since Shiitake theoretically may affect how your body processes them.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product may work best for people not taking blood pressure meds, blood thinners, diabetes medications, immunosuppressants, or certain psychiatric or heart drugs. If you take any prescription medications — especially warfarin, blood pressure pills, or diabetes drugs — check them against our interaction tool before you start.

Formula
Mushrooms Mushroom Immune Complex with maitake, reishi & shiitake
Discussion: Maitake, also known as Hen of the Woods, is a popular mushroom native to Asia, where it has been used as both a food and a medicine for thousands of years. This formula combines Maitake with two other traditional Asian mushrooms, Reishi and Shiitake. These mushrooms have adaptogenic properties, meaning they support the body's ability to adapt to stress. Studies suggest that the polysaccharides found in mushrooms, known as Beta Glucans, may provide nutritive support for healthy immune system function.

Mushroom Immune Complex by Solaray Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Solaray's Mushroom Immune Complex contains three mushroom ingredients, each with documented interactions.
The most serious concern is Maitake Mushroom with warfarin (Coumadin), a blood thinner — a case report showed a patient's warfarin level jumped dangerously high after taking maitake, raising the risk of bleeding.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
All three mushrooms interact with antihypertensive drugs (Moderate severity), potentially boosting their blood pressure-lowering effect and causing dizziness or fainting. Reishi and Maitake both interact with antidiabetes drugs (Moderate severity), possibly lowering blood sugar too much.
Maitake carries additional risk with blood thinners beyond warfarin. Shiitake may interfere with immunosuppressant medications used after transplant or for autoimmune diseases, and theoretically could affect how your body processes certain psychiatric and cardiac drugs metabolized by the CYP2D6 enzyme, though this hasn't been confirmed in humans.
Altogether, these interactions span 647 individual medications. Use the search tool below to check your exact prescriptions before starting this product.

For each ingredient in Mushroom Immune Complex with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Reishi Mushroom
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, high doses of reishi mushroom might increase the risk of bleeding.
A dose of 1.5 grams daily of reishi mushroom does not seem to decrease platelet aggregation, but a higher dose of 3 grams daily does.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, reishi mushroom might have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs.
Animal research suggests that reishi mushroom decreases blood sugar. However, in patients with type 2 diabetes, taking reishi mushroom does not reduce fasting glucose levels, and its effects on glycated hemoglobin are inconsistent.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, concurrent use of reishi mushroom with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Reishi mushroom has shown hypotensive activity in animal research. Clinical evidence suggests that reishi mushroom reduces blood pressure in some, but not all, patients with hypertension.
Shiitake Mushroom
Cytochrome P450 2D6 (Cyp2D6) Substrates
Theoretically, shiitake mushroom might decrease levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
In vitro studies suggest that the shiitake mushroom extract AHCC might induce the CYP2D6 enzyme. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, taking shiitake mushroom might decrease the effects of immunosuppressive therapy.
In vitro evidence suggests that shiitake mushroom extracts stimulate immune function.
Maitake Mushroom
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, combining maitake mushroom with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Clinical research shows that taking maitake mushroom polysaccharide (MMP) can lower blood glucose levels in patients with types 2 diabetes.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, combining maitake mushroom with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Animal research shows that maitake mushroom can lower blood pressure.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
There is limited evidence that maitake mushroom may increase the anticoagulant effects of warfarin.
In a case report, a patient previously stabilized on warfarin developed an elevated international normalized ratio (INR) of 5.1 after taking maitake mushroom (Grifron-Pro Maitake D-Fraction) 1 drop/kg daily in three divided doses for one week. The elevated INR resolved after holding warfarin for two days, then reducing the dose by 11%. It is thought that the beta-glucan constituent of maitake mushroom might cause warfarin dissociation from proteins, resulting in increased free warfarin levels and increased warfarin effects.
