Evidence for maitake mushroom's effectiveness is insufficient or not well established for allergic rhinitis, chemotherapy-related side effects like anemia and diarrhea, laryngeal cancer, and chronic fatigue syndrome. Shiitake mushroom shows insufficient evidence for dental plaque, anemia, atherosclerosis, breast cancer, general cancer, and chemotherapy-induced nausea.
Chaga, poria mushroom, and the three ingredients we could not check have similarly limited or no established effectiveness ratings in our data. None of the ingredients in this product have strong, well-documented proof of benefit for any condition.
How safe is it?

Maitake and shiitake mushrooms are generally well tolerated when consumed as food, but concentrated supplements haven't been fully studied for safety. The most common side effects from maitake are stomach-related — diarrhea and pain in the upper abdomen — reported in small numbers of trial participants.
Shiitake can cause abdominal discomfort, bloating, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting; raw shiitake carries a rare risk of a distinct skin eruption called shiitake dermatitis. Chaga poses a specific risk: two cases of kidney failure and one of acute kidney injury have been reported with very high consumption, linked to chaga's high oxalate content.
Poria mushroom is generally tolerated but rarely causes allergic reactions like allergic rhinitis or asthma. During pregnancy, the safety data advises against maitake, shiitake, chaga, and poria — concentrated supplements should be avoided.

Mycetoblend 575 mg by Eclectic Herb contains eight mushroom ingredients, and several of them carry documented interactions with medications.
The most serious concern is maitake mushroom, which can increase bleeding risk when combined with warfarin (Coumadin), a blood thinner. This is a moderate-severity interaction backed by a case report of a patient whose blood-thinning level climbed after taking maitake.

Maitake and chaga also interact with antidiabetes drugs — both may lower blood sugar further, raising the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Maitake similarly combines with blood pressure medications to potentially lower blood pressure more than intended.
Chaga adds a separate concern: it may increase bleeding risk with anticoagulants or antiplatelet drugs like aspirin. Shiitake mushroom may reduce the effectiveness of immunosuppressant medications and theoretically affect how your liver processes certain drugs.
Both shiitake and poria mushroom carry immune-stimulating effects that could theoretically interfere with immunosuppressive therapy. Poria also interacts with sedatives, anticholinergic drugs, and cholinergic drugs.

Anticholinergic Drugs
Theoretically, poria mushroom might decrease the clinical effects of anticholinergic drugs.
In animal research, poria mushroom essential oil reduces acetylcholinesterase activity. This interaction has not been shown in humans.
Cholinergic Drugs
Theoretically, poria mushroom might have additive effects when used with cholinergic drugs.
In animal research, poria mushroom essential oil reduces acetylcholinesterase activity. This interaction has not been shown in humans.
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, taking poria mushroom extract may enhance the therapeutic and adverse effects of sedatives.
Animal research shows that poria mushroom extract has sedative properties. This interaction has not been shown in humans.
Chaga, Freeze-Dried
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, chaga may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
In vitro and animal research suggests that chaga extract can inhibit platelet aggregation. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, taking chaga with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Animal research suggests that chaga might decrease blood glucose levels and increase insulin levels. This has not been reported in humans.
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, chaga might interfere with immunosuppressive therapy.
In vitro research suggests that certain constituents of chaga stimulate immune function. This has not been reported in humans.
Shiitake, Freeze-Dried
Cytochrome P450 2D6 (Cyp2D6) Substrates
Theoretically, shiitake mushroom might decrease levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
In vitro studies suggest that the shiitake mushroom extract AHCC might induce the CYP2D6 enzyme. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, taking shiitake mushroom might decrease the effects of immunosuppressive therapy.
In vitro evidence suggests that shiitake mushroom extracts stimulate immune function.
Maitake, Freeze-Dried
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, combining maitake mushroom with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Clinical research shows that taking maitake mushroom polysaccharide (MMP) can lower blood glucose levels in patients with types 2 diabetes.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, combining maitake mushroom with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Animal research shows that maitake mushroom can lower blood pressure.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
There is limited evidence that maitake mushroom may increase the anticoagulant effects of warfarin.
In a case report, a patient previously stabilized on warfarin developed an elevated international normalized ratio (INR) of 5.1 after taking maitake mushroom (Grifron-Pro Maitake D-Fraction) 1 drop/kg daily in three divided doses for one week. The elevated INR resolved after holding warfarin for two days, then reducing the dose by 11%. It is thought that the beta-glucan constituent of maitake mushroom might cause warfarin dissociation from proteins, resulting in increased free warfarin levels and increased warfarin effects.
