Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 2 of its 2 active ingredients.
  • “TrueBroc” is listed as a grouped ingredient — the label gives one combined amount (100 mg) without saying how much of each component you get.

OncoProtect ES contains two active ingredients: broccoli seed extract and TrueBroc, a branded broccoli component blend. Broccoli seed extract is a concentrated source of glucosinolates — compounds that your body converts into sulforaphane, a plant chemical being studied for potential protective effects against certain cancers.

The product also contains hypromellose as an inactive ingredient (the capsule material).

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed

This product doesn't appear to be marketed for a specific use, so we graded Broccoli's overall clinical evidence instead.

Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports Broccoli for:

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.
  • Since the label doesn't commit to one use, we graded the ingredient's overall clinical evidence instead.
  • On file: Colorectal cancer — rated "Possibly Effective" (Natural Medicines).

The evidence for broccoli extract is mixed. It's rated possibly effective for colorectal cancer prevention based on available research.

However, for bladder cancer, breast cancer, fibromyalgia, and gastric cancer, there isn't enough reliable evidence yet to make a rating. The science is still developing in these areas.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data

Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Broccoli as a food is well tolerated in normal amounts, but concentrated supplements like this one are less studied and the facts note caution is warranted unless your doctor approves. The main side effects reported from broccoli seed extracts are digestive — loose stools, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and cramping, especially at higher doses.

Topically, allergic reactions causing contact dermatitis have occurred in some people. The product is rated likely safe in pregnancy and lactation, though concentrated extracts haven't been extensively studied in these situations.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Broccoli.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.

Before taking this product, ask your doctor or pharmacist to check whether you take any medications metabolized by CYP2A6 or CYP1A2 enzymes. Broccoli extract can speed up how your liver breaks down these drugs, potentially making them less effective.

Examples include certain smoking-cessation aids, some antiarrhythmics, and some pain relievers, but the full list is long — use the checker on this page to verify your specific medications.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

OncoProtect ES may appeal to you if you're interested in broccoli extract for potential cancer-related support, especially if you have a family history of colorectal cancer. However, if you take any prescription medications — particularly those cleared by your liver — you'll want to check them against this product's interactions before starting.

Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you and safe alongside your current medications.

Formula

OncoProtect ES Extra Strength is an advanced antioxidant formula containing both Glucoraphanin (from truebroc) and active Myrosinase enzymes in a delayed release capsule. Utilizing a patented process. Glucoraphanin is extracted from broccoli seeds to provide a patent source of bioavailable sulforaphane (SFN). Published in over 500 journal publications since 1992, research shows SFN plays a vital role in antioxidant activity and is key to the production of detoxification enzymes in the body. When combined with Myrosinase (an activator of sulforaphane), this powerful formula provides efficient and long-lasting support for the body's detoxification processes while promoting optimal cellular health.

Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates

Theoretically, broccoli might reduce the levels and effects of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.
Pharmacokinetic research in humans shows that eating 500 grams of fresh broccoli daily for 6-12 days can increase CYP1A2 activity by 10% to 200%. Induction of CYP1A2 activity by broccoli is attributed to its glucosinolate constituents.

OncoProtect ES by Pure TheraPro Rx: Common Questions

Does OncoProtect ES by Pure TheraPro Rx interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, OncoProtect ES has a known interaction with 187 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
OncoProtect ES contains 2 active ingredients, and an interaction can come from any of them. We check every ingredient, combine the results into one list per medication, and show which ingredient and mechanism is responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Does broccoli extract really work for cancer prevention?
The evidence is promising for colorectal cancer — it's rated possibly effective based on research. For bladder, breast, and gastric cancers, there isn't enough reliable evidence yet to know if it helps. Talk with your doctor about how it might fit into your own health plan.
Will this give me the same effect as eating broccoli?
No — this is a concentrated extract, not whole broccoli food. Concentrated supplements interact with medications differently and carry risks that whole broccoli doesn't. The facts note that concentrated extracts are less studied than broccoli as a food, so caution is advised unless your doctor approves.
What are the side effects?
The main ones are digestive: loose stools, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and cramping, especially if you take a high dose. Allergic contact dermatitis has been reported in some people. Most side effects are mild, but stop and talk to your pharmacist if they bother you.
Is it safe to take while pregnant or breastfeeding?
The broccoli seed extract in this product is rated likely safe for pregnancy and lactation. That said, concentrated extracts haven't been extensively studied in these situations, so it's worth discussing with your doctor or midwife before starting.
Why does the label mention 'TrueBroc'?
TrueBroc is a branded blend of broccoli components — its individual ingredients are listed separately, so we can check them for interactions. Myrosinase, another ingredient in the product, we don't have interaction data for on file.
How much broccoli is actually in each capsule?
The product facts don't list the amount per capsule, so check the label on your bottle or contact the manufacturer for that detail.
