Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 2 of its 2 active ingredients.
  • “Glucoraphanin” is listed as a grouped ingredient — the label gives one combined amount (100 mg) without saying how much of each component you get.

OncoProtect ES contains two active ingredients: glucoraphanin and myrosinase, delivered as broccoli extract (called TrueBroc). Glucoraphanin is a compound naturally found in broccoli; when myrosinase is present, the two work together to form sulforaphane, a substance some research suggests may support cellular health.

The product also contains hypromellose, an inert capsule material.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: cellular health and immunity support.
  • We looked for evidence on: Bladder cancer, Breast cancer, Colorectal cancer, Gastric cancer, Prostate cancer, cellular defense — and 2 related terms.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Broccoli is rated "Possibly Effective" for Colorectal cancer (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Broccoli is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Bladder cancer, Breast cancer, Gastric cancer, Prostate cancer.

The evidence for broccoli extract in colorectal cancer prevention is possibly effective based on the data we hold. For other cancers—bladder, breast, and gastric—and for fibromyalgia, the evidence is insufficient to rate whether it works.

This means either the research is limited or mixed, so we can't yet say whether the product would help with those conditions.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Broccoli as a food is generally well tolerated in normal amounts. However, concentrated broccoli supplements like this one are less well studied, and the facts recommend avoiding concentrated extracts unless your doctor approves.

Some people report loose stools, diarrhea, stomach pain, or cramping after taking broccoli seed and sprout extracts, especially at higher doses. Allergic contact reactions to broccoli have also been reported.

Regarding pregnancy and lactation, broccoli extract is rated likely safe, so the safety data does not advise against it during pregnancy or nursing. That said, since concentrated supplements are less studied overall, it's wise to talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.

Before taking OncoProtect ES, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take any medications metabolized by CYP2A6 (including some smoking-cessation aids and pain relievers) or CYP1A2 (including some antidepressants and heart medications). Broccoli extract can speed up how quickly your liver clears these drugs, which may reduce their effectiveness.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

OncoProtect ES may be worth considering if you're interested in colorectal cancer support and your doctor agrees it fits your health plan. However, because broccoli extract can speed up your liver's breakdown of many medications, you need to check your exact medications with your own doctor or pharmacist before starting—this is especially important if you take anything for smoking cessation, heart conditions, depression, or pain.

If you experience loose stools or stomach cramping after starting, let your healthcare provider know.

Theoretically, broccoli might reduce the levels and effects of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.
Pharmacokinetic research in humans shows that eating 500 grams of fresh broccoli daily for 6-12 days can increase CYP1A2 activity by 10% to 200%. Induction of CYP1A2 activity by broccoli is attributed to its glucosinolate constituents.
