Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?

  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: lemon peel. There is one inactive ingredient — the vegetable cellulose capsule shell.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see Lemon's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: Anti-microbial and nutritional boost for body.
  • We looked for evidence on: Respiratory tract infections, Immune support, General wellness.
  • The closest evidence on file: Lemon is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Respiratory tract infections (Natural Medicines).

The evidence for lemon peel isn't established in the data we hold. We have insufficient reliable evidence to rate its effectiveness for hay fever, anxiety, respiratory tract infections, high blood pressure, or kidney stones.

If you're considering it for any of those reasons, talk with your pharmacist about what the science actually shows.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Lemon as a food or drink is generally well tolerated in normal amounts. When taken in larger medicinal doses — like in this supplement — the safety record is less clear.

In one clinical trial, people taking fresh lemon juice twice daily reported gastrointestinal trouble at higher rates than placebo: 21% experienced heartburn and 8% experienced epigastralgia (pain just below the ribs), compared to 1% and 3% in the placebo group. If you have a sensitive stomach or acid reflux, this might not be the best fit for you.

Concentrated lemon supplements and essential oils haven't been well studied, so check with your doctor before using them.

Only Minor-severity interactions are documented for these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Lemon.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Minor.
  • For scale: 1 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

If you take itraconazole (Sporanox) for a fungal infection, check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding this product — lemon may increase the drug's levels and effects.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.

This single-ingredient supplement is straightforward, but the evidence for its benefits hasn't been established yet. If you take itraconazole (an antifungal), you'll want to check with your pharmacist first — lemon can raise its levels.

If you're prone to heartburn or stomach upset, keep in mind that medicinal doses of lemon juice caused GI distress in a meaningful number of trial participants.

Itraconazole (Sporanox)

Theoretically, taking itraconazole capsules or tablets with a beverage containing lemon might increase the levels and clinical effects of itraconazole.
In one case report, dissolving itraconazole tablets in a small amount of specific beverages containing lemon prior to administration increased the level of itraconazole in a lung transplant patient. In this case, the increased bioavailability was desirable and was likely due to improved tablet dissolution in the acidic beverage.
