Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product is a single-ingredient powder: organic raw wheatgrass juice powder. Wheatgrass is the young grass of the wheat plant, processed into a concentrated juice form.

There are no other active ingredients and no inactive fillers listed.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Wheatgrass product and its label doesn't state a use — see Wheatgrass's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence for wheatgrass is not established in our data. The product's claims relate to bronchitis, benign prostatic hyperplasia, beta-thalassemia, common cold, and cancer — but the data we hold shows insufficient reliable evidence to rate effectiveness for any of these uses.

That doesn't mean wheatgrass doesn't work; it means the evidence available so far isn't strong enough to make a confident call.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Wheatgrass is generally well tolerated when taken by mouth, but the data notes quality and contamination concerns warrant caution — especially with raw products. The most common side effects reported are allergic reactions, loss of appetite (anorexia), constipation, and nausea.

Because wheat is a major food allergen in the United States, people sensitive to wheat may react to wheatgrass. There isn't enough safety information on file for pregnancy and breastfeeding — talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist before using it during these times.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Wheatgrass.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: diabetes medications.
  • For scale: 272 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before you take this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on antidiabetes drugs — wheatgrass may lower your blood glucose too much. You should also verify any prescription medications that your liver breaks down, especially antidepressants and blood pressure drugs, since wheatgrass may reduce how well they work.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Wheatgrass powder might appeal to you if you're looking for a whole-food supplement, but the effectiveness evidence isn't solid yet. If you take diabetes medication or any prescription drug metabolized by your liver, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting — the interactions are real and could affect how well your medications work or your blood sugar control.

Quality and contamination matter with this type of product, so choose carefully.

Formulation

Dr. Berg's Wheatgrass Juice Powder uses the highest quality growing and processing methods. Our wheat grass is grown in the rich soils of ancient sea bed in Utah's West Desert full of rare trace minerals and nutrients. Using a unique freeze drying method called BioActiveDehydration, we retain the natural qualities fresh juice and when reconstituted in water the juice is virtually identical to fresh squeezed juice with essentially no degradation of color, flavor, aroma, enzymes, and nutrition.

This juicepowder is 100% pure and contains no insoluble fibers, carriers or additives.

This high purity makes it more soluble in water and ideal for use in a variety of drink mixes. One half scoop (1.2 g) is equivalent to a one-ounce shot of fresh wheat grass juice. And realize that this product is the juice of the wheat grass, ten times more potent than the wheat grass itself. One teaspoon of wheat grass is equivalent to three to four pounds of vegetables.

Does Organic Wheat Grass Superfood by Dr. Berg's interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Organic Wheat Grass Superfood has a known interaction with 272 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Organic Wheat Grass Superfood contains 2 active ingredients, and an interaction can come from any of them. We check every ingredient, combine the results into one list per medication, and show which ingredient and mechanism is responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Will wheatgrass give me an allergic reaction?
Some people do have allergic reactions to wheatgrass. Since wheat is a major food allergen in the U.S., anyone with wheat sensitivity should be cautious. Common side effects also include nausea, constipation, and loss of appetite.
Can I take this if I have diabetes?

Does wheatgrass actually work for what it's marketed for?
