How safe is it?
Well-documented data
This product needs serious attention. Black Cherry contains cyanide-forming compounds — small amounts in commercial products are generally considered okay, but large doses can cause cyanide poisoning.
A documented case involved a woman who consumed about 300 grams of wild cherries steeped in alcohol and developed headache, nausea, vomiting, confusion, and severe breathing problems. Bloodroot is potentially toxic and corrosive; we don't recommend it for self-treatment.
Short-term oral use at appropriate doses is generally well tolerated, but nausea, vomiting, and nervous system depression have been reported. Long-term use of bloodroot products in the mouth has been linked to mouth lesions, impaired taste, and staining.
Topical contact with fresh bloodroot causes irritation or burns. Neither ingredient should be used during pregnancy.
Bloodroot is also unsafe while breastfeeding; Black Cherry data during breastfeeding isn't on file.
