Pantethine Plus Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Pantethine Plus against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

What’s inside
Low disclosure
Pantethine Plus contains 7 active ingredients. Sodium provides an essential mineral but is included here at levels you'll want to monitor closely.
Beta-sitosterol, campesterol, and a proprietary phytosterol blend are plant-derived compounds that support cholesterol and prostate health. Pantesin Pantethine is a form of pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) involved in energy metabolism and fat breakdown.
The product also includes inactive ingredients — cellulose, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, and glycerin — which serve as fillers, binders, and capsule material.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Beta-sitosterol and campesterol are likely effective for benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate) and possibly effective for familial high cholesterol and heart disease. Pantethine is possibly effective for high triglycerides.
The evidence for pantethine in athletic performance and other lipid disorders is insufficient — we don't have enough data to say whether it works for those uses. Sodium's effectiveness for certain conditions like cystic fibrosis is likely, and it may help prevent kidney damage from amphotericin B, but evidence for other uses is limited.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Sodium is well tolerated in normal dietary amounts but becomes risky at high supplemental doses. Too much is linked to high blood pressure, heart strain, and kidney problems.
Beta-sitosterol and campesterol are generally well tolerated short-term in adults; the most common side effects are mild stomach issues — constipation, diarrhea, gas, indigestion, nausea — and rarely reduced appetite. Pantethine is also generally well tolerated, with similar mild gastrointestinal complaints, and uncommon mild itching has been reported.
For pregnancy, sodium is likely safe in normal amounts but possibly unsafe at high levels — there isn't enough reliable data for beta-sitosterol, campesterol, or pantethine during pregnancy or breastfeeding, so those are best avoided unless your doctor advises otherwise. We don't have pregnancy or breastfeeding safety data on file for stigmasterol, brassicasterol, or other plant sterols.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking Pantethine Plus, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take lithium (mood stabilizer) — sodium can significantly alter its blood levels and effectiveness. Also flag any blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs, blood pressure medications, corticosteroids, didanosine (Videx), sodium phosphate bowel-prep solutions, or tolvaptan (Samsca).
All of these have Moderate-severity interactions with sodium in this product.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product may help cholesterol and prostate health if you don't take lithium, blood thinners, blood pressure medications, or certain other drugs. If you do take any of those, or if you have high blood pressure, heart disease, or kidney problems, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting — the sodium content and potential interactions need a personalized review.
Even if you're not on interacting medications, avoid supplementing with extra sodium without medical guidance.

Pantethine Plus by Integrative Therapeutics Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Pantethine Plus by Integrative Therapeutics has documented interactions through its sodium and pantethine content.
The most serious concern is sodium's potential to alter lithium levels — high sodium intake can lower lithium blood levels and reduce its effectiveness, while low sodium can raise levels and cause toxicity in patients taking lithium for bipolar disorder. This is a Moderate severity interaction that requires careful monitoring.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Sodium in this product can also interact with blood pressure medications (antihypertensives), corticosteroids, didanosine (Videx), sodium phosphate bowel-prep solutions, and tolvaptan (Samsca) — all Moderate severity. The main concern across these is sodium accumulation in your body, which can worsen blood pressure control, increase salt retention, or raise sodium to unsafe levels.
Pantethine may increase bleeding risk if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (Moderate severity). Several plant sterols in this product — beta-sitosterol and campesterol — have no interactions documented in our data, though we could not check stigmasterol, brassicasterol, or the other plant sterols listed.

For each ingredient in Pantethine Plus with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Sodium
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, a high intake of dietary sodium might reduce the effectiveness of antihypertensive drugs.
High intake of dietary sodium can increase systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Also, high intake of sodium may necessitate increased use of antihypertensive medications to achieve blood pressure control in some patients, such as those with chronic kidney disease.
Corticosteroids
Concomitant use of mineralocorticoids and some glucocorticoids with sodium supplements might increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Mineralocorticoids and some glucocorticoids (corticosteroids) cause sodium retention. This effect is dose-related and depends on mineralocorticoid potency. It is most common with hydrocortisone, cortisone, and fludrocortisone, followed by prednisone and prednisolone.
Didanosine (Videx)
Concomitant use of didanosine with additional sodium from dietary or supplemental sources may increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Didanosine formulations contain a significant amount of sodium.
Lithium
Altering dietary intake of sodium might alter the levels and clinical effects of lithium.
High sodium intake can reduce plasma concentrations of lithium by increasing lithium excretion. Reducing sodium intake can significantly increase plasma concentrations of lithium and cause lithium toxicity in patients being treated with lithium carbonate. Stabilizing sodium intake is shown to reduce the percentage of patients with lithium level fluctuations above 0.8 mEq/L. Patients taking lithium should avoid significant alterations in their dietary intake of sodium.
Sodium Phosphates
Theoretically, concomitant use of sodium phosphate with sodium supplements might increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Use of high doses (> 45 mL in 24 hours) of sodium phosphate, such as those used for bowel cleansing before surgery, can lead to serious electrolyte disturbances, including hypernatremia. The risk of hypernatremia is highest in the elderly and people with other risk factors for electrolyte disturbances.
Sodium-Containing Drugs
Concomitant use of sodium-containing drugs with additional sodium from dietary or supplemental sources may increase the risk of hypernatremia and long-term sodium-related complications.
The Chronic Disease Risk Reduction (CDRR) intake level of 2.3 grams of sodium daily indicates the intake at which it is believed that chronic disease risk increases for the apparently healthy population. Some medications contain high quantities of sodium. When used in conjunction with sodium supplements or high-sodium diets, the CDRR may be exceeded. Additionally, concomitant use may increase the risk for hypernatremia; this risk is highest in the elderly and people with other risk factors for electrolyte disturbances.
Tolvaptan (Samsca)
Theoretically, concomitant use of tolvaptan with sodium might increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Tolvaptan is a vasopressin receptor 2 antagonist that is used to increase sodium levels in patients with hyponatremia. Patients taking tolvaptan should use caution with the use of sodium salts such as sodium chloride.
Pantesin Pantethine
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, pantethine might increase the risk of bleeding with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Some evidence suggests that pantethine reduces platelet aggregation.
