What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: pau d'arco (also called lapacho or tabebuia), a bark extract from a South American tree, supplied at 510 mg per capsule. The capsule itself is made from gelatin, with magnesium stearate added as a flow agent to help with manufacturing.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for pau d'arco is not yet established in reliable human studies. The product is marketed for cancer, peptic ulcers, wound healing, and painful menstrual cramps, but we hold no solid data showing it works for any of these uses.
If you're considering it for a health concern, talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist to explore what evidence does exist and whether other options might be stronger.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Pau d'arco is generally well tolerated at lower doses, but safety data in humans is limited. At higher doses—particularly the lapachol component above 1.5 grams daily—it may cause anemia, increased bleeding risk, severe nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
This product supplies 510 mg per capsule, below that threshold, but individual responses vary. The safety data advises against use during pregnancy because of possible harm to a developing baby.
There isn't enough safety information available for breastfeeding, so avoid it while nursing. If you're pregnant or breastfeeding and considering this product, talk with your doctor or pharmacist.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you start, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you take any blood thinner or antiplatelet drug (such as warfarin, clopidogrel, aspirin at prescription strength, or heparin). This product may increase bleeding risk when combined with these medications.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Pau d'arco remains an unproven remedy for the conditions it's marketed for. Its main risk is a moderate bleeding concern if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs.
If that's you, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting. It's also off-limits in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
For most others without bleeding-risk medications, the 510 mg dose in each capsule appears to fall below the threshold for serious side effects, but human safety data is thin.

Pau D'Arco 510 mg by Thompson Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Thompson's Pau D'Arco 510 mg may interact with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (medications that prevent clots).
The main concern is a Moderate-severity interaction: pau d'arco can theoretically increase bleeding risk when combined with these drugs. Lab research shows it reduces platelet clumping and may interfere with vitamin K, a key player in clotting.
One clinical study found that doses of the lapachol component above 1.5 grams daily raised bleeding risk further.

Additionally, the 510 mg per capsule in this product is below that 1.5-gram threshold, but we can't say for certain how it will behave in your body, especially if you take multiple capsules or use the product long-term. Altogether, these interactions span 122 individual medications.
If you take any blood thinner or antiplatelet medication—including warfarin, clopidogrel, aspirin at prescription strength, or similar drugs—check with your doctor or pharmacist before adding this product.
