What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: pennyroyal glycerite liquid extract. The extract is suspended in glycerin and flavored with mint.
Pennyroyal is an herb traditionally used for various conditions, though the evidence supporting those uses is not established in the data we hold.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for pennyroyal is insufficient to rate its effectiveness for gallbladder disease, gout, insect repellent, common cold, pneumonia, or canker sores. We don't have reliable data showing it works for any of these purposes.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Pennyroyal oil is highly toxic and has caused liver failure and death. This product should not be used in pregnancy—the safety data advises against it because pennyroyal can cause abortion and severe poisoning.
It is also not safe while breastfeeding. Even herbal teas made from pennyroyal leaves carry some risk of dizziness, nausea, and abdominal cramping.
The essential oil form is associated with much more severe effects, including liver failure and heart rhythm problems. Topically, pennyroyal oil can cause rashes and skin inflammation.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Do not take this product with acetaminophen (Tylenol and other fever or pain relievers) without talking to your pharmacist first. The combination carries a documented Moderate risk of liver damage.

The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Given the documented liver toxicity and serious adverse effects on record, pennyroyal is not a product we'd recommend for most people. If you're considering it, talk with your pharmacist or doctor first—especially if you take any pain relievers or have liver concerns.
It is unsafe in pregnancy and while breastfeeding.
