Full disclosure
Ingredient Transparency · database check
Full

Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: phenibut, a synthetic compound that works on GABA receptors in your brain — the same target as some anxiety and sleep medications. Each capsule delivers 250 mg.

The capsules themselves are made from gelatin and microcrystalline cellulose (a plant-based filler).

Does it work?

Insufficient evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Insufficient

There isn't enough reliable clinical evidence to rate this product's ingredients for its stated purpose.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: reduce insomnia, anxiety and muscle tension.
  • We looked for evidence on: Anxiety, Insomnia, stress relief, mood support, nervousness, muscle relaxation.
  • The closest evidence on file: Phenibut is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Anxiety (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Phenibut is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Insomnia.

The evidence isn't established in our data for any of phenibut's claimed uses — anxiety, ADHD, depression, insomnia, cognitive function, or alcohol use disorder all carry a rating of insufficient reliable evidence. That means we don't have enough solid research to say whether it actually works for these purposes.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

This one warrants a serious conversation with us: phenibut is not approved as a supplement or drug in the United States, and it carries a high risk of dependence and dangerous withdrawal. Most people who take it experience dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, or balance problems.

The real red flag is withdrawal — after just 3 or more consecutive days of use, you can develop serious symptoms including seizures, hallucinations, agitation, anxiety, and dangerous changes in heart rate and blood pressure. Case reports also document respiratory depression, especially at high doses, and rapid tolerance (meaning it stops working quickly).

Because phenibut is a CNS depressant and there's no safety data in pregnancy, it should be avoided if you're pregnant. The same goes for breastfeeding — we don't know if it passes into breast milk, so it's not recommended.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Phenibut.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • For scale: 248 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before taking phenibut, check with your pharmacist if you take any CNS depressants (Moderate severity) — that includes sleep aids, benzodiazepines, opioid pain relievers, or any other sedating medication. Also check if you're on pregabalin (Lyrica) for nerve pain (Moderate severity).

Given that 248 individual medications interact with this product, a full medication review with your pharmacist is not optional.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with insufficient evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Phenibut is not approved in the U.S. and carries real risks of dependence, severe withdrawal, and respiratory depression — benefits here don't outweigh those dangers for most people. If you're taking any sedating medication, opioid, benzodiazepine, or pregabalin, you cannot safely use this product without a serious medication check.

Phenibut 250 mg by AN Amazing Nutrition Amazing Formulas: Common Questions

Does Phenibut 250 mg by AN Amazing Nutrition Amazing Formulas interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Phenibut 250 mg has a known interaction with 248 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Phenibut 250 mg contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
What exactly is phenibut, and how is it supposed to work?
Phenibut is a synthetic compound that acts on GABA receptors in your brain — the same system that some anti-anxiety and sleep medications target. It's used in some countries as a prescription medication, but it's not approved as a supplement or drug in the U.S.
Can I take this if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
No. There's no safety data for pregnancy and phenibut is a CNS depressant, so it should be avoided if you're pregnant. The same applies to breastfeeding — we don't know if it passes into breast milk, so it's not recommended.
What are the side effects I should watch for?
The most common ones are dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, and balance problems. The bigger concern is withdrawal — if you use it for 3 or more days in a row, you can develop serious symptoms like seizures, hallucinations, anxiety, agitation, and dangerous changes in heart rate and blood pressure, even after you stop.
Does phenibut actually work for anxiety or sleep?
We don't have enough reliable research to say. For anxiety, sleep, ADHD, depression, cognitive function, and alcohol use disorder, the evidence is rated insufficient — meaning we can't confirm it works for any of these.
Why does the product facts list so many medication interactions?
Phenibut interacts with 248 individual medications because it's a CNS depressant — anything that slows your brain and nervous system (like sedatives, opioids, or benzodiazepines) can have additive effects with it. That's why checking every medication you take is essential.
What's the dependence risk really about?
Phenibut has a high risk of dependence — you can develop tolerance within 3 days of use, meaning it stops working. And withdrawal after regular use includes serious symptoms. That's why it's not approved in the U.S., and why we'd strongly recommend talking to your pharmacist before considering it.
