Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains three active ingredients in a capsule. Choline and inositol are B vitamins that support brain health and metabolism.
Phosphatidylserine is a phospholipid (a type of fat molecule) found naturally in cell membranes and also plays a role in brain function. The capsule itself is made from cellulose and hypromellose, with silicon dioxide and magnesium stearate added as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for this product is mixed. Phosphatidylserine is possibly effective for age-related cognitive decline and Alzheimer disease.
Inositol is possibly effective for polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), metabolic syndrome, and preterm labor. Choline's evidence is less clear—it's possibly ineffective for athletic performance, and we don't have enough reliable data on it for bronchitis, cognitive decline, or several other conditions.
The bottom line: phosphatidylserine and inositol have some evidence behind them for specific uses, but choline's role in this formula isn't well established.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Phosphatidylserine is generally well tolerated in studies, though long-term safety isn't fully established. Common side effects include flatulence, nausea, headache, insomnia, and gastrointestinal upset.
Inositol is well tolerated at common doses, causing mostly mild digestive issues like diarrhea, gas, and nausea. Choline is generally safe in food amounts but can cause a fishy body odor at high doses, and doses exceeding 9 grams daily have caused nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and salivation.
Regarding pregnancy and breastfeeding: choline is rated likely safe during pregnancy and lactation. Inositol has no safety rating on file—there isn't enough reliable information, so use only under medical supervision if pregnant or nursing.
Phosphatidylserine should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding because safety data are insufficient.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, double-check with your pharmacist if you use anticholinergic drugs (used for bladder control and other conditions), cholinergic medications, diabetes drugs, or atropine. These are the medication types documented to interact with ingredients in this supplement.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product may help with age-related memory concerns or polycystic ovary syndrome, but it's not for everyone. If you take diabetes medications, anticholinergic drugs, or cholinergic medications, you need to check with your pharmacist first.
Pregnant or breastfeeding? Talk to your doctor before starting, especially regarding the phosphatidylserine component.

Formula
NOW Phosphatidyl Serine is a phospholipid compound derived from soy lecithin that plays an essential role in cell membrane composition and intercellular communication. Phosphatidyl serine is a major structural component of neural membranes where it assists in the conduction of electrical impulses and facilitates the activity of neurotransmitters involved in learning, memory, and mood. Phosphatidyl Serine 100 mg by NOW Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Phosphatidyl Serine 100 mg by NOW contains three active ingredients, and together they interact with a significant number of medications.
The most serious concern is phosphatidylserine's potential to interfere with anticholinergic drugs—medications used for conditions like overactive bladder and certain types of poisoning. Because phosphatidylserine may increase acetylcholine levels in your brain, it could reduce how well these drugs work.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Inositol may increase the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) if you take diabetes medications, since inositol itself can lower blood glucose. Choline has a minor interaction with atropine (an anticholinergic drug), theoretically decreasing its effects in the brain.
Additionally, phosphatidylserine might have additive effects when combined with cholinergic drugs—medications that boost acetylcholine—potentially causing too much cholinergic activity.
Altogether, these interactions span 303 individual medications. If you take any prescription medication—especially for diabetes, bladder control, or neurological conditions—check your exact drugs with the search tool on this page before starting this product.

For each ingredient in Phosphatidyl Serine 100 mg with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Phosphatidylserine
Anticholinergic Drugs
Theoretically, phosphatidylserine might decrease the effectiveness anticholinergic drugs.
Phosphatidylserine is thought to increase acetylcholine levels, which could theoretically interfere with the activity of anticholinergic agents.
Cholinergic Drugs
Theoretically, phosphatidylserine might have additive effects with cholinergic drugs.
Phosphatidylserine is thought to increase acetylcholine levels, which could theoretically lead to additive cholinergic effects when used with cholinergic drugs.
Inositol
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, taking inositol with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Clinical research shows that inositol lowers blood glucose levels and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels in patients with diabetes.
Choline
Atropine
Theoretically, choline might decrease the effects of atropine in the brain.
Animal research shows that administering choline one hour before administering atropine can attenuate atropine-induced decreases in brain levels of acetylcholine. Theoretically, concomitant use of choline and atropine may decrease the effects of atropine.
