Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Phyto-Gen Al-gen contains three active herbal extracts in liquid form. Black currant bud extract, rosemary young shoot extract, and juniper young shoot extract make up the formula.
The inactive ingredients include purified water, ethanol, and glycerin.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for these ingredients is limited. Rosemary is rated possibly effective for memory support; the other ingredients—black currant bud extract for Alzheimer disease, liver disease, upper respiratory infection, cough, and eczema, and juniper for gastroesophageal reflux, rheumatoid arthritis, urinary tract infections, wound healing, kidney stones, and bronchitis—all lack reliable evidence to rate their effectiveness for these uses.
If you're considering this product for a specific health goal, talk with your pharmacist about what the evidence actually shows.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Black currant bud extract is generally well tolerated as a food, but concentrated supplements lack safety data; a small number of people taking black currant seed oil in trials reported mild diarrhea a few days after starting. Rosemary is safe in culinary amounts and rated possibly effective for memory, but concentrated extracts need caution.
Topical use of rosemary can cause allergic skin reactions and, in rare cases, occupational asthma. Juniper is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and long-term medicinal doses may irritate the kidneys.
Topical juniper can cause skin irritation and occupational allergies.

Phyto-Gen Al-gen by Genestra Brands Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Phyto-Gen Al-gen by Genestra Brands contains three herbal extracts, and they do interact with several medication types.
Black currant bud extract and rosemary young shoot extract both carry Moderate risk with anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs—blood thinners and anti-clotting medications. Both ingredients appear to thin the blood themselves, which could increase your bleeding risk if you're already on a blood thinner like warfarin or an antiplatelet drug like aspirin.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Rosemary and juniper also both interact with diabetes medications (Moderate severity). They may lower blood sugar, so taking either with diabetes drugs could raise your low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) risk.
Rosemary adds three more Moderate interactions: it contains salicylates, so it may have additive effects if you're taking aspirin or other salicylate-containing pain relievers. Rosemary also may weaken certain medications your liver processes—specifically CYP1A2 substrates (Minor severity).
Juniper carries Minor interactions with diuretics and lithium; it has mild water-pill effects that could worsen diuretic side effects or reduce how your body clears lithium.
These interactions span 460 individual medications. If you take any blood thinner, diabetes drug, or heart or kidney medication, use the interaction checker below with your exact prescriptions before starting this product.

Theoretically, taking rosemary with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Animal research shows that rosemary extract can decrease blood glucose levels in diabetic models. However, research in humans is conflicting. Although rosemary powder decreased blood glucose levels in healthy adults, no change in blood glucose levels was seen in adults with type 2 diabetes, most of whom were taking antidiabetes drugs.
Aspirin
Theoretically, rosemary might have additive effects with salicylate-containing drugs such as aspirin.
Rosemary is reported to contain salicylates.
Choline Magnesium Trisalicylate (Trilisate)
Theoretically, rosemary might have additive effects with salicylate-containing drugs such as choline magnesium trisalicylate.
Rosemary is reported to contain salicylate.
Salsalate (Disalcid)
Theoretically, rosemary might have additive effects with salicylate-containing drugs such as salsalate.
Rosemary is reported to contain salicylate.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, rosemary might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that rosemary induces CYP1A2 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Juniper Young Shoot Extract
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, taking juniper berry with antidiabetes medications might cause additive hypoglycemia.
Animal research shows that juniper berry can lower blood glucose.
Diuretic Drugs
Theoretically, juniper berry might increase the risk of adverse effects from diuretic drugs.
Juniper berry is thought to have mild diuretic effects.
Lithium
Theoretically, juniper berry might reduce lithium excretion and increase serum levels of lithium.
Juniper berry is thought to have mild diuretic effects.
Black Currant Bud Extract
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, black currant seed oil might increase the risk of bleeding if used in combination with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), a constituent of black currant seed oil, appears to have antiplatelet effects.
Phenothiazines
Theoretically, black currant seed oil might increase the risk of seizure in patients receiving phenothiazines.
Black currant seed oil contains gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). There is some concern that taking supplements containing GLA might cause seizures, or lower the seizure threshold, when taken with phenothiazines, although there is no evidence that black currant seed oil causes seizures. In one report, three patients with schizophrenia who had received phenothiazines developed EEG changes suggestive of temporal lobe epilepsy after starting treatment with GLA, although none experienced an actual seizure. In another report, two patients with schizophrenia who were stabilized on phenothiazines developed seizures when evening primrose 4 grams daily, which contains GLA, was added. One of these patients had a prior history of seizures.
