ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
Why this applies to Aspirin, Caffeine, Dover's Pwd
Aspirin, Caffeine, Dover's Pwd falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Black Currant interacts with.
Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), a constituent of black currant seed oil, appears to have antiplatelet effects.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
This combination medicine contains aspirin, which already thins the blood a bit by reducing how well your platelets clump together. Black currant seed oil supplies GLA, an omega-6 fat that may also have a mild blood-thinning, anti-platelet action. Put the two together and, at least in theory, you could nudge your bleeding risk a little higher. That might show up as easier bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or cuts that take longer to stop.
I want to be honest: this is a theoretical concern based on how these compounds behave, not strong human studies, and eating black currant berries as food is very unlikely to matter. It's concentrated seed oil supplements I'd watch. Before adding one, just check with your pharmacist or doctor.
