How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Potassium from food is fine, but supplements can raise your blood level dangerously — especially if you have kidney disease. The most common side effects from oral potassium are mild: belly pain, burping, diarrhea, gas, nausea, and vomiting.
Serious side effects are rare but real: very high potassium can cause irregular heartbeats, low blood pressure, heart block, and mental confusion. During pregnancy, dietary potassium is appropriate, but use supplements only under medical guidance.
While breastfeeding, check with your doctor before taking a potassium supplement. The safety data here is rated Likely Safe, but the cautions matter — talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting, especially if you're pregnant, nursing, or have kidney disease.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check before taking this if you use potassium-sparing diuretics (water pills that conserve potassium), ACE inhibitors (blood pressure drugs ending in -pril, like lisinopril), or angiotensin receptor blockers (blood pressure drugs ending in -sartan, like losartan). All three interact at Moderate severity and raise your risk of dangerously high blood potassium.
Run your specific medications through the search tool on this page or ask your doctor or pharmacist.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This is a potassium supplement designed for people looking to support ketone metabolism. If you take blood pressure medicine or a water pill, you must check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting — the risk of dangerously high blood potassium is real.
People with kidney disease should especially talk this over with their own healthcare provider first. Even without medications, potassium supplements need medical guidance.

Potassium BHB 9 g Unflavored by Nutricost Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Nutricost Potassium BHB 9 g interacts with several important blood pressure and heart medications through its potassium and potassium beta-hydroxybutyrate content.
The most serious concern is a Moderate-severity risk of high blood potassium (hyperkalemia) when combined with potassium-sparing diuretics, ACE inhibitors (ACEIs), or angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs). High blood potassium can cause irregular heartbeats, heart block, low blood pressure, and confusion — so if you take any of these drugs, this product isn't something to start without checking with your doctor or pharmacist first.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
All three drug types work by affecting how your kidneys handle potassium, and adding a potassium supplement on top raises your blood level dangerously. The risk is especially real if you have kidney disease, since damaged kidneys can't clear potassium the way they should.
Altogether, these interactions span 62 individual medications.
Before you take this supplement, search your exact medications in the tool below or run them by your pharmacist. If you're on any blood pressure medicine — especially one that ends in -pril (like lisinopril) or -sartan (like losartan) — or a water pill that spares potassium, you need to clear this with your own doctor or pharmacist first.

For each ingredient in Potassium BHB 9 g Unflavored with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Potassium
Ace Inhibitors (Aceis)
Using ACEIs with high doses of potassium increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
ACEIs block the actions of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and reduce potassium excretion. Concomitant use of these drugs with potassium supplements increases the risk of hyperkalemia. However, concomitant use of these drugs with moderate dietary potassium intake (about 3775-5200 mg daily) does not increase serum potassium levels.
Angiotensin Receptor Blockers (Arbs)
Using ARBs with high doses of potassium increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
ARBs block the actions of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and reduce potassium excretion. Concomitant use of these drugs with potassium supplements increases the risk of hyperkalemia. However, concomitant use of these drugs with moderate dietary potassium intake (about 3775-5200 mg daily) does not increase serum potassium levels.
Potassium-Sparing Diuretics
Concomitant use increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
Using potassium-sparing diuretics with potassium supplements increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
