What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: potassium gluconate, a compound that delivers dietary potassium in supplement form. There are no inactive ingredients listed.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The product facts we hold don't include an effectiveness rating for potassium gluconate as a supplement. Potassium is an essential mineral your body needs for heart rhythm, muscle function, and blood pressure regulation, but whether supplementation beyond your diet improves health outcomes isn't established in our data.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Potassium from food is safe for most people, but supplements are a different story — they can raise your blood levels dangerously, especially if you have kidney disease. The most common side effects when taking it by mouth are stomach upset: abdominal pain, belching, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting.
In rare cases, high potassium can cause irregular heartbeats, low blood pressure, heart block, or confusion. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, dietary potassium is fine, but don't use supplements without checking with your doctor first — the safety data advises caution in both situations.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on a potassium-sparing diuretic, ACE inhibitor, or ARB. All three can combine with potassium supplements to cause dangerously high blood potassium levels.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
If you have normal kidney function and your doctor thinks you need extra potassium, this powder can deliver it. But if you take a blood pressure or heart medication — especially a diuretic, ACE inhibitor, or ARB — talk to your pharmacist before you start.
Anyone with kidney disease should absolutely get medical clearance first.

Potassium monograph & interactionsPotassium Gluconate Pure Powder by NOW Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Potassium Gluconate Pure Powder by NOW can interact with several blood pressure and heart medications.
The most serious concern is with potassium-sparing diuretics (water pills that hold onto potassium) — combining them with this supplement raises your risk of dangerously high blood potassium levels (hyperkalemia), a Moderate-severity problem.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
ACE inhibitors and ARBs (two common classes of blood pressure drugs) also carry a Moderate risk. These medications reduce how much potassium your body excretes, so adding a supplement on top can push levels too high.
High blood potassium can trigger irregular heartbeats, low blood pressure, and confusion.
If you're on any blood pressure or heart medication — especially a diuretic, ACE inhibitor, or ARB — you need to check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this supplement. Altogether, these interactions span 62 individual medications.

Potassium
Ace Inhibitors (Aceis)
Using ACEIs with high doses of potassium increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
ACEIs block the actions of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and reduce potassium excretion. Concomitant use of these drugs with potassium supplements increases the risk of hyperkalemia. However, concomitant use of these drugs with moderate dietary potassium intake (about 3775-5200 mg daily) does not increase serum potassium levels.
Angiotensin Receptor Blockers (Arbs)
Using ARBs with high doses of potassium increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
ARBs block the actions of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and reduce potassium excretion. Concomitant use of these drugs with potassium supplements increases the risk of hyperkalemia. However, concomitant use of these drugs with moderate dietary potassium intake (about 3775-5200 mg daily) does not increase serum potassium levels.
Potassium-Sparing Diuretics
Concomitant use increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
Using potassium-sparing diuretics with potassium supplements increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
