ProbioMax DF Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by XYMOGEN
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking ProbioMax DF against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
ProbioMax DF contains four active probiotic strains: Lactobacillus acidophilus LA-14, Bifidobacterium animalis lactis HN019, Lactobacillus plantarum LP-115, and Bifidobacterium longum Bl-05. These are beneficial bacteria intended to support gut health.
The capsule also contains inactive ingredients (hypromellose, gellan gum, water, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, and silica) that serve as fillers and binders.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for Lactobacillus acidophilus supports possible effectiveness for irritable bowel syndrome, Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis; it's possibly ineffective for atopic disease, and we don't have enough data to rate it for acute respiratory distress syndrome. For Bifidobacterium longum, the evidence doesn't yet establish effectiveness for the conditions studied (age-related cognitive decline, hay fever, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, anxiety, asthma, and athletic performance).
We hold no effectiveness data on the other two strains.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lactobacillus acidophilus is generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children, though you should check with your doctor before use. Bifidobacterium longum is also generally well tolerated in healthy people, but caution is advised if you're seriously ill or immune-compromised.
Both probiotics can rarely cause gastrointestinal side effects like belly pain, bloating, flatulence, or diarrhea when taken orally. Because these are live organisms, there's a theoretical concern they could cause serious infection in immunocompromised patients, though this is rare.
For pregnancy, Lactobacillus acidophilus is rated possibly safe; Bifidobacterium longum is possibly safe for both pregnancy and lactation. Since safety data are limited, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using this product during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product with antibiotic drugs. Both Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium longum can lose effectiveness if antibiotics are taken at the same time, so spacing them several hours apart is important.
We couldn't check two of the four strains for interactions, so run your full medication list through the checker on this page to be sure.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
ProbioMax DF is a multi-strain probiotic that may help with irritable bowel syndrome and antibiotic-associated diarrhea if you take Lactobacillus acidophilus. The main thing to watch is timing with antibiotics — you'll need to space them apart.
If you're seriously ill, immune-compromised, or pregnant or breastfeeding, talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist before starting it.

Formula
100 Billion CFU Probiotic Colony-Forming Unit
ProbioMax DF is a vegetarian, dairy- and gluten-free, four-strain probiotic totaling 100 billion CFU per capsule. Each vegetarian capsule is sealed in nitrogen-purged aluminum blister packs to serve as protection from factors proven to compromise the stability of probiotics such as heat, moisture, and oxygen. ProbioMax DF provides four researched strains of beneficial bacteria, including the extensively studied HN019 strain of Bifidobacterium lactis. These live microorganisms have proven health benefits and well-established safety, and have been tested for epithelial cell adhesion and/or resistance to low pH.

ProbioMax DF by XYMOGEN Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
ProbioMax DF by XYMOGEN contains four probiotic strains, and two of them — Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium longum — have documented interactions with antibiotic drugs.
Both can theoretically lose effectiveness if you take them at the same time as antibiotics, because antibiotics may kill off the live organisms in the supplement. The most serious concern is Moderate severity.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The issue is timing: these probiotics contain live, active microorganisms that antibiotics are designed to eliminate. If you're prescribed antibiotics, you'll want to space them apart from this product — your doctor or pharmacist can tell you the right interval.
We couldn't check two of the four strains (Bifidobacterium animalis lactis and Lactobacillus plantarum) because we hold no interaction data for them.
Altogether, these interactions span 182 individual medications. Use the medication checker on this page to look up any prescriptions you take before starting ProbioMax DF.

Lactobacillus acidophilus LA-14
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
Bifidobacterium longum Bl-05
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Bifidobacterium longum with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B. longum.
Since B. longum preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. longum preparations by at least 2 hours.
