Kanamycin falls under ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS — the group Bifidobacterium Longum interacts with.

Theoretically, taking Bifidobacterium longum with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B. longum.
Since B. longum preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. longum preparations by at least 2 hours.

Here's the key thing to understand: this interaction works in one direction, and it's the probiotic that loses out, not your antibiotic. Kanamycin is a strong aminoglycoside antibiotic, and it doesn't care whether bacteria are the bad kind making you sick or the friendly kind in a Bifidobacterium longum supplement. If you swallow them at the same time, the kanamycin can simply kill off a good chunk of those live probiotic organisms before they ever get to do their job.

The good news is that your kanamycin still works just fine, and this won't make it stronger or cause extra side effects. To get your money's worth from the probiotic, just space them out by at least 2 hours. As always, run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.
