ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Bacampicillin
Bacampicillin falls under ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS — the group Bifidobacterium Longum interacts with.
Since B. longum preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. longum preparations by at least 2 hours.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the simple version: Bacampicillin is an antibiotic (it's actually a prodrug that your body converts into ampicillin once you swallow it). Its whole job is to kill bacteria. The catch is that a probiotic like Bifidobacterium longum is made of live, friendly bacteria, so taking the two at the same time means your antibiotic may simply kill off a good chunk of the probiotic you just paid for.
This doesn't make the antibiotic dangerous, and it won't change how well the Bacampicillin fights your infection. It mainly means the probiotic may not do much. A common fix is to space them apart by at least 2 hours. This advice is based on how these products work rather than on hard studies, so check the timing with your pharmacist.

This page covers Bifidobacterium Longum only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Bacampicillin page lists 44 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.
The most serious there right now: Activated Charcoal (major), Bacillus Coagulans (moderate), Bacillus Subtilis (moderate), Bifidobacterium Animalis Subsp. Lactis (moderate) and Bifidobacterium Bifidum (moderate).
By severity: 1 major · 33 moderate · 10 minor.
From our pharmacist’s overview on the Bacampicillin page
“If you're on bacampicillin (Penglobe), a penicillin-type antibiotic, handle this list with real care, starting with activated charcoal. It's the one major-rated interaction of the 44 on file, and it binds the antibiotic in your gut so less reaches your blood, which can mean an infection that doesn't clear.”
