Prostate Support Complex Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Prostate Support Complex against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains 3 active ingredients. Saw palmetto fruit CO2 extract (40-45% concentration) is traditionally used for urinary and prostate support.
Pygeum africanum bark extract (3-4% concentration) is also used for prostate health. Stinging nettle root extract rounds out the blend.
The capsules themselves are made from vegetable cellulose, with calcium carbonate as an inactive filler.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
The evidence for this combination is mixed. Saw palmetto is rated possibly ineffective for benign prostate enlargement (BPH), though it's possibly effective for a specific prostate procedure called TURP.
Pygeum, on the other hand, is rated likely effective for BPH. For stinging nettle root extract, the evidence we hold shows it's possibly effective for diabetes but insufficient to rate it for prostate or urinary symptoms specifically.
The bottom line: pygeum has the strongest evidence here, but the other two lack clear proof for prostate support.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
All three ingredients are generally well tolerated when taken as directed. Saw palmetto's most common side effects—abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, fatigue, headache, nausea, and decreased libido—are mild and reversible in most users.
Rare cases of heart rhythm changes have been reported. Pygeum may cause nausea or abdominal pain, though rates were similar to placebo in clinical research.
Stinging nettle is well tolerated orally, with constipation or diarrhea reported occasionally. Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Do not use this product if you're pregnant.
Saw palmetto is rated likely unsafe in pregnancy due to possible hormone effects and lack of safety data, and both pygeum and stinging nettle lack enough safety information. If you're breastfeeding, avoid this product as well—safety data for all three ingredients during lactation is insufficient.
Talk with your doctor or pharmacist before use if either applies to you.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take this product, double-check if you're on blood thinners like warfarin or antiplatelet drugs like aspirin (saw palmetto may increase bleeding risk). If you take diabetes medications, diuretics, lithium, or contraceptives, talk to your pharmacist—all carry Moderate-severity interactions with ingredients here.
Estrogen-containing medications may also be affected.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This prostate support blend is generally well tolerated, but it's not right for everyone. If you take blood thinners, diabetes drugs, diuretics, lithium, or contraceptive medications, or if you're pregnant or nursing, check with your pharmacist before starting.
The evidence for prostate support is strongest for pygeum; the other two have less clear proof for this specific use.

Theoretically, combining stinging nettle with diuretic drugs may have additive effects.
Animal research suggests that the above ground parts and roots of stinging nettle may have a diuretic effect.
Lithium
Theoretically, stinging nettle might reduce excretion and increase levels of lithium.
Animal research suggests that stinging nettle has diuretic and natriuretic properties, which could alter the excretion of lithium. The dose of lithium might need to be decreased.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
There is some concern that stinging nettle might decrease the effects of anticoagulant drugs such as warfarin.
Stinging nettle contains a significant amount of vitamin K. When taken in large quantities, this might interfere with the activity of warfarin.
