Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: red raspberry leaf at 450 mg per capsule. Red raspberry leaf is the dried leaf of the red raspberry plant and has been used traditionally for various purposes.

The capsule itself is made from gelatin and water as inactive ingredients.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Red Raspberry product and its label doesn't state a use — see Red Raspberry's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence for red raspberry leaf is limited across the conditions studied. We have insufficient reliable evidence to rate its effectiveness for aging skin, heart disease, respiratory tract infections, congestive heart failure, or diabetes.

The data we hold doesn't establish whether it works for any of these uses.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Red raspberry leaf is generally well tolerated by most adults, though safety evidence is limited overall. The most common side effects with typical doses are uncommon, but may include diarrhea, stomach upset, and epigastric pain (discomfort in the upper abdomen).

One occupational case of asthma-like symptoms (wheezing and shortness of breath) was reported from inhaling raspberry powder, though this is not relevant to taking capsules by mouth. For pregnancy, the safety data is mixed: some evidence suggests it's likely safe, while other data rates it possibly safe or possibly unsafe—the evidence isn't clear-cut.

If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this product is right for you, since there isn't enough reliable information to know for certain either way.

Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Red Raspberry.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs; diabetes medications.
  • For scale: 135 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product if you're on blood thinners (anticoagulants or antiplatelets like warfarin, aspirin, or clopidogrel) or insulin. The interaction data we have is Moderate severity for both drug types.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Red Raspberry Leaf 450 mg is generally well tolerated, but it may interact with blood thinners and insulin—two medication categories worth checking before you start. The evidence for what it actually does is limited.

If you take either of those drug types, or if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist first.

Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs

In vitro research suggests that red raspberry leaf extract has antiplatelet activity and enhances the in vitro effects of the antiplatelet medication cangrelor. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Insulin

Red raspberry leaf might reduce glucose levels in patients being treated with insulin.
In one case report, a 38-year-old patient with gestational diabetes, whose blood glucose was being controlled with medical nutrition therapy and insulin, developed hypoglycemia after consuming two servings of raspberry leaf tea daily for 3 days beginning at 32 weeks' gestation. The patient required an insulin dose reduction. The hypoglycemia was considered to be probably related to use of red raspberry leaf tea.
