Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: raspberry leaf extract. It's a liquid form designed for easy dosing.
The product has no other inactive ingredients listed.
Does it work?
Not established
The data we hold rates red raspberry leaf as having insufficient reliable evidence for the uses studied—aging skin, heart and lung health, heart failure, and diabetes control. That doesn't mean it doesn't work; it means the science isn't yet solid enough to make a confident claim either way.
Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for what you're trying to address.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Red raspberry leaf is generally well tolerated by most adults, though our safety data is limited. The most common side effects reported with oral use are diarrhea, upset stomach, and upper abdominal pain—but these don't typically occur at standard doses.
A rare case of occupational asthma from inhaling raspberry powder was reported. Pregnancy and breastfeeding safety aren't fully established.
The product carries mixed pregnancy ratings in our data, and there isn't enough reliable information to confirm safety while breastfeeding. If you're pregnant or nursing, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on blood thinners (anticoagulants or antiplatelet drugs like warfarin or aspirin)—the Moderate interaction could increase bleeding risk. Also check if you take insulin or other diabetes medications, as red raspberry leaf may lower blood sugar.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Red Raspberry Leaf may appeal to you if you're interested in herbal wellness support, but the evidence for its effectiveness is currently insufficient. The main concern is its potential to interact with blood thinners and insulin—if you take either, check with your doctor or pharmacist first.

Red Raspberry Leaf by Pure Herbs Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Pure Herbs Red Raspberry Leaf interacts with blood thinners and insulin through its raspberry leaf extract.
The most serious concern is a Moderate-severity interaction with blood thinners (anticoagulants and antiplatelet drugs): in lab studies, the extract showed antiplatelet activity and enhanced the effects of the blood thinner cangrelor, which could theoretically increase bleeding risk—though this hasn't been reported in humans yet.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Red raspberry leaf may also lower blood sugar levels in people taking insulin. A case report described a patient with gestational diabetes who developed low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) after drinking two servings of raspberry leaf tea daily for three days while on insulin therapy.
Altogether, these interactions span 135 individual medications. Check your exact prescriptions—especially any blood thinners or insulin—with the search tool on this page before you start.

Raspberry Leaf Extract
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, taking red raspberry leaf with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs might increase the risk of bleeding.
In vitro research suggests that red raspberry leaf extract has antiplatelet activity and enhances the in vitro effects of the antiplatelet medication cangrelor. This interaction has not been reported in humans.
Insulin
Red raspberry leaf might reduce glucose levels in patients being treated with insulin.
In one case report, a 38-year-old patient with gestational diabetes, whose blood glucose was being controlled with medical nutrition therapy and insulin, developed hypoglycemia after consuming two servings of raspberry leaf tea daily for 3 days beginning at 32 weeks' gestation. The patient required an insulin dose reduction. The hypoglycemia was considered to be probably related to use of red raspberry leaf tea.
