What is this page for?

What’s inside
Full disclosure
Village Vitality's Sarsaparilla is a liquid extract containing one active ingredient: sarsaparilla root. The liquid also contains grain alcohol and deionized water as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The data we hold shows insufficient reliable evidence to rate sarsaparilla for cancer, psoriasis, or rheumatoid arthritis. That means human trials haven't established whether it works for these conditions — not that it doesn't work, but that the evidence isn't there yet.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Sarsaparilla is thought to be low-risk at food-like doses, but human safety data at supplement doses are limited. The safety information we have advises against use during pregnancy and breastfeeding due to lack of adequate safety data.
Occupational exposure to sarsaparilla root dust can trigger rhinitis (nasal inflammation) and asthma symptoms, though this is mainly a concern for workers handling the raw plant material.

Sarsaparilla by Village Vitality Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Sarsaparilla by Village Vitality interacts with lithium and digoxin (a heart medication).
The concern with both stems from sarsaparilla's diuretic properties — it may increase how much fluid your body loses through urine.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
With lithium, this diuretic effect might reduce how quickly your body clears the drug, raising its levels in your blood and increasing both its effects and side effects. Your lithium dose may need adjustment.
With digoxin, the diuretic action could lower your potassium level, which heightens the risk of heart rhythm problems when combined with the medication.
Both interactions are rated Moderate in severity. If you take either of these drugs, check with your doctor or pharmacist before adding this product — you may need dose monitoring or an alternative.
