HelloPharmacist Scorecard of L-Tryosine 500 mg by Village Vitality
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: L-tyrosine, an amino acid your body normally makes from another amino acid called phenylalanine. It's listed at 500 mg per capsule.
The capsule itself and the other ingredients — cellulose, silica, and magnesium stearate — are inactive excipients that help hold and deliver the tyrosine.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
L-tyrosine is effective for phenylketonuria (PKU), a rare genetic condition where the body can't process phenylalanine. It's possibly effective for cognitive function and memory — meaning there's some evidence it may help, but it's not yet conclusive.
For athletic performance, the evidence suggests it probably doesn't work. We don't have enough reliable data to know whether it helps with alcohol use disorder or dementia.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L-tyrosine is generally well tolerated in healthy adults when used at normal doses, though a full safety review hasn't been done. The most common side effects are fatigue, headache, heartburn, and nausea.
At much higher doses (much more than what's in this product), headache and fatigue become more likely. There isn't enough safety data to know whether it's safe during pregnancy or while breastfeeding — talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using it in either situation.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check before taking if you use levodopa (a Parkinson's medication) — tyrosine can reduce how well it works, and you'll need to space your doses at least 2 hours apart. Also confirm with your doctor or pharmacist if you take thyroid hormones, since tyrosine might increase their effects.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This single-ingredient supplement may help with cognitive function and memory, though the evidence isn't definitive. It's worth considering if you're looking for a brain-support option, but definitely check with your doctor or pharmacist first if you take levodopa or thyroid hormones, since tyrosine can interfere with how those work.
Even without interactions, discuss regular use with your healthcare provider to confirm it's right for you.

Formula
L-tyrosine is a non-essential amino acid synthesized in the body from the essential amino acid phenylalanine.
Formulation
L-tyrosine is the direct precursor to several important neurotransmitters which affect many functions in the brain including mood, stress response, mental function, satiety and sex drive. L-tyrosine is also an important component of hormones that are produced by the thyroid. These hormones are in turn key for managing metabolism. L-tyrosine is required to form melanin, the dark pigment present in the skin to shield the body from the harmful effects of ultraviolet light. We guarantee our supplements for potency and purity

L-Tryosine 500 mg by Village Vitality Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
L-Tyrosine 500 mg by Village Vitality interacts with two medication types: levodopa (used for Parkinson's disease) and thyroid hormones.
The most serious concern is with levodopa — tyrosine and levodopa compete for absorption in your small intestine, which means tyrosine might make levodopa less effective at controlling your symptoms. If you take levodopa, separate your tyrosine dose by at least 2 hours.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Tyrosine is also a building block for thyroid hormones, so taking it alongside thyroid medications could theoretically boost their effects beyond what your dose was meant to deliver. This is a Moderate severity interaction — something to discuss with your doctor or pharmacist before you start.
Altogether, these interactions span 21 individual medications. If you're on either levodopa or a thyroid hormone, check your exact medication below before taking this supplement.

L-Tyrosine
Levodopa
Theoretically, tyrosine might decrease the effectiveness of levodopa.
