What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: Skullcap Flowering Aerial Parts Extract, made from fresh, undried skullcap flowers and stems. The liquid form includes cane alcohol and distilled water as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence for skullcap isn't established in our data. It's been used traditionally for epilepsy, stress, stroke recovery, spasticity, contact dermatitis, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), but we hold insufficient reliable evidence to rate how well it actually works for any of these conditions.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Skullcap is often used short-term, but evidence on its long-term safety is limited and product quality varies — so use it with care. The most common side effects reported are sedation, cognitive impairment, and digestive disturbances.
A single 100 mg dose doesn't appear to cause brain-related side effects, but 200 mg or higher doses might cause sedation and trouble concentrating. Around 9% of people taking 350 mg three times daily for 2 weeks had mild digestive upset.
One person on that dose reported vivid dreams, though it's unclear if skullcap caused it. During pregnancy, there isn't enough safety data, so it's best avoided.
Safety is unknown while breastfeeding, so avoid it then too.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking Herb Pharm's Skullcap, check any CNS depressants you take — that includes prescription sleep aids, anti-anxiety medications, certain pain relievers, and some antihistamines. Skullcap can add to their sedating effects.
Run your exact medications through the search tool on this page, and confirm with your doctor or pharmacist that it's safe to combine.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Skullcap may help with stress, anxiety, or sleep, but we don't have strong evidence that it works. The main concern is that it can add to the drowsiness and mental cloudiness of other brain-slowing drugs.
If you take any sleep aids, anti-anxiety medications, or pain relievers, talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist before starting. Avoid it if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.

Skullcap by Herb Pharm Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Herb Pharm's Skullcap can interact with medications, primarily through its potential to add to the effects of other central nervous system (CNS) depressants — drugs that slow brain activity.
The concern is Moderate in severity: skullcap may have additive sedating and cognitive effects when combined with these medications, meaning you could feel drowsier or have more trouble thinking clearly than either drug alone would cause.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
CNS depressants include prescription sleep aids, anti-anxiety medications, some pain relievers, and certain antihistamines. Animal and clinical research suggests skullcap itself can cause sedation and cognitive impairment, so combining it with other depressants raises that risk.
Altogether, these interactions span 248 individual medications.
Before you start this product, check your exact medications using the search tool on this page. If you take any CNS depressants, run them through first — your doctor or pharmacist can tell you whether it's safe to combine them with skullcap.
