HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Super Artemisinin by NutriCology
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Super Artemisinin contains 2 active ingredients: artemisinin and sweet wormwood (leaf) oil. Artemisinin is the main compound extracted from sweet annie, a plant used in traditional medicine.
Sweet wormwood oil is another form of the same plant material. The capsules also contain inactive ingredients — hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, microcrystalline cellulose, and nu-mag — which help hold the formula together and aid absorption.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Artemisinin and sweet wormwood may be possibly effective for allergic rhinitis (hay fever) based on available evidence. For nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, malaria, and osteoarthritis, the evidence isn't established in the data we hold — there's insufficient reliable evidence to rate how well it works.
This product is generally used short-term, and quality and dose vary widely across supplements, so it shouldn't replace treatments your doctor has proven will work for you.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Super Artemisinin is generally well tolerated when taken by mouth. The most common side effects are nausea and vomiting.
Rarely, liver damage (hepatotoxicity) has been reported — one case described a person who developed hepatitis-like symptoms after taking artemisinin 200 mg three times daily for 10 days; symptoms resolved after stopping. One mild allergic reaction with rash and cough has also been reported, and some people have felt numbness of the tongue or throat itching after sublingual doses.
The safety data advises against using this product during pregnancy because of possible harm to the developing baby. There isn't enough safety information to use it while breastfeeding — talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you in that situation.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking Super Artemisinin if you take any drug that damages the liver or any medication broken down by your liver's CYP3A4 or CYP2B6 enzymes — both are Moderate severity interactions. The research on how much this product speeds up or slows down liver metabolism is mixed, so it's important to confirm your specific drugs won't be affected before you begin.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Super Artemisinin may help with hay fever symptoms, but the evidence for other uses isn't established. It poses a Moderate risk of interacting with a large number of medications, especially those your liver processes or drugs that can damage your liver.
Before you start, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about your current medications and whether this product fits your situation. Avoid it if you're pregnant or breastfeeding unless you've cleared it with your healthcare provider.

Super Artemisinin by NutriCology Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Super Artemisinin by NutriCology interacts with medications through its artemisinin and sweet wormwood oil content.
The most serious concern is with drugs that damage the liver (hepatotoxic drugs) — both ingredients may add to that risk at a Moderate severity level, since there's already concern that these compounds can adversely affect your liver on their own.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Both ingredients also interact with drugs broken down by your liver's CYP3A4 and CYP2B6 pathways (Moderate severity for each). The research is mixed: artemisinin itself may speed up how your liver clears these drugs, potentially making them less effective, but the whole extract seems to do the opposite.
That means the final effect is unclear — your liver might process these medications faster, slower, or normally depending on what else is in the product and how your body responds.
Altogether, these interactions span 890 individual medications. Because both active ingredients share the same interaction profile, the range of affected drugs is substantial.
Before you start Super Artemisinin, run your current medications through the checker on this page — especially anything for your liver, heart, or any drug your doctor said your liver metabolizes.

Artemisinin
Cytochrome P450 2B6 (Cyp2B6) Substrates
Sweet Annie may alter plasma levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP2B6.
In vitro research shows that the Sweet Annie constituent artemisinin induces CYP2B6, possibly increasing CYP2B6 activity by 1.6-fold. However, Sweet Annie extract seems to inhibit the activity of CYP2B6 in vitro, suggesting that other constituents of Sweet Annie play a role in its effects on the overall activity of this enzyme. More information is needed to determine whether taking Sweet Annie extract affects the metabolism of CYP2B6 substrates.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Sweet Annie may alter plasma levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that the Sweet Annie constituent artemisinin induces CYP3A4, possibly increasing CYP3A4 activity by 1.9-fold. However, Sweet Annie extract seems to inhibit the activity of CYP3A4 in vitro, suggesting that other constituents of Sweet Annie play a role in its effects on the overall activity of this enzyme. More information is needed to determine whether taking Sweet Annie extract affects the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.
Hepatotoxic Drugs
Theoretically, concomitant use might have additive adverse hepatotoxic effects.
There is some concern that Sweet Annie can adversely affect the liver.
