Super Natural Chromium Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Super Natural Chromium by Vibrant Health
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Super Natural Chromium contains 2 active ingredients: broccoli powder and Phytavail™ chromium. Broccoli powder is a concentrated form of the vegetable, and chromium is a mineral that plays a role in how your body manages blood sugar and uses insulin.
The product also contains vegetable cellulose for the capsule and silica as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
The evidence for this product rests mainly on chromium. For chromium deficiency itself, the data shows it's likely effective—if you're genuinely low, it should help.
For blood sugar and diabetes, chromium is possibly effective; some research suggests it may help with glucose control, especially in people whose diabetes is not well managed. For prediabetes (impaired glucose tolerance), the evidence rates it as possibly ineffective.
Broccoli powder's effectiveness isn't established in the data we hold for specific health conditions beyond possibly effective for colorectal cancer; for bladder, breast, gastric cancer and fibromyalgia, the evidence is insufficient to rate.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Broccoli as a food is safe in normal amounts, but concentrated supplements are less studied and the facts caution that their safety isn't well established—your doctor should approve before you use a supplement form. Chromium is generally well tolerated at typical supplement doses, though the facts caution that high or long-term doses may carry risks.
The most common side effects from chromium are gastrointestinal irritation, headaches, insomnia, irritability, and mood changes. Broccoli powder may cause loose stools, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and cramping, especially at high doses.
Rare serious effects have been reported with chromium (kidney and liver damage, and blood cell problems), though these are uncommon. There's limited data on how safe extra chromium doses are long-term, so avoid supplement doses unless your doctor recommends them.
One patient reported itchy palms with chromium nicotinate that resolved when stopped, and in rare cases, chromium supplements have caused skin rashes and rashes with pustules.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take this product, check whether you're on antidiabetes medications (like metformin or sulfonylureas) or insulin—chromium may lower blood sugar too much. If you take levothyroxine (thyroid hormone), chromium may interfere with absorption; the two should be separated by several hours.
Also check for any medications broken down by CYP1A2 or CYP2A6 enzymes, or NSAIDs and aspirin, which interact with broccoli powder and chromium respectively. Use the medication checker below to search your exact drugs.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
If you have type 2 diabetes, prediabetes, or take thyroid hormone replacement, talk to your pharmacist or doctor before starting this product—the interactions are real and matter for your treatment. Anyone on medications metabolized by CYP1A2 or CYP2A6 should also check their drugs with the tool on this page.
For otherwise healthy people not on those medications, the product is generally tolerated, but concentrated broccoli supplements are less studied than whole broccoli.

Super Natural Chromium by Vibrant Health Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Super Natural Chromium by Vibrant Health contains two active ingredients—broccoli powder and chromium—and both have documented interactions with medications.
The most serious concern is chromium's interaction with antidiabetes drugs and insulin: chromium may lower blood glucose levels on its own, so taking it alongside these medications could increase your risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). That's a Moderate-severity interaction you'll want to discuss with your doctor before starting.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Broccoli powder can speed up how your liver breaks down certain drugs metabolized by two liver enzymes (CYP1A2 and CYP2A6 substrates). This means those medications may become less effective.
Chromium also has a Moderate interaction with levothyroxine (a thyroid hormone used in Synthroid and other brands)—it may bind the drug in your gut and reduce how much your body absorbs, lowering its effect. Additionally, chromium can interact with NSAIDs and aspirin (both Minor severity), which may increase how much chromium your body retains.
Although we've identified these drug interactions from the ingredients we could check, there are many more individual medications affected across all these categories. Altogether, these interactions span 342 individual medications.
Please use the medication checker on this page to search for your specific prescriptions before you start.

For each ingredient in Super Natural Chromium with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Broccoli powder
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, broccoli might reduce the levels and effects of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.
Pharmacokinetic research in humans shows that eating 500 grams of fresh broccoli daily for 6-12 days can increase CYP1A2 activity by 10% to 200%. Induction of CYP1A2 activity by broccoli is attributed to its glucosinolate constituents.
Cytochrome P450 2A6 (Cyp2A6) Substrates
Theoretically, broccoli might reduce the levels and effects of drugs metabolized by CYP2A6.
Pharmacokinetic research in humans shows that eating 500 grams of broccoli daily for 6 days increases CYP2A6 activity by 135% to 550%. Induction of CYP2A6 activity is attributed to its glucosinolate constituents.
Phytavail(TM) Chromium
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, chromium may have additive effects with antidiabetic agents and increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Some research shows that taking chromium might lower blood glucose levels, especially in patients with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes.
Insulin
Theoretically, concomitant use of chromium and insulin might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
In clinical research, chromium has been shown to increase insulin sensitivity,
Levothyroxine (Synthroid, Others)
Chromium might bind levothyroxine in the intestinal tract and decrease levothyroxine absorption.
Clinical research in healthy volunteers shows that taking chromium picolinate 1000 mcg with levothyroxine 1 mg decreases serum levels of levothyroxine by 17% when compared to taking levothyroxine alone. Advise patients to take levothyroxine at least 30 minutes before or 3-4 hours after taking chromium.
Aspirin
Theoretically, aspirin might increase chromium absorption.
Animal research suggests that aspirin may increase chromium absorption and chromium levels in the blood.
Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (Nsaids)
NSAIDs might increase chromium levels in the body.
Drugs that are prostaglandin inhibitors, such as NSAIDs, seem to increase chromium absorption and retention.
