Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: tangerine powder. Tangerine is a citrus fruit, and the powder form concentrates its constituents, including a compound called tangeretin.

There are no other inactive ingredients listed.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Tangerine product and its label doesn't state a use — see Tangerine's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence for tangerine's effectiveness against cancer is insufficient to rate. We don't hold data showing it works reliably for that or other conditions.

If you're considering this for a specific health goal, talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist about whether the evidence supports its use.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Tangerine fruit itself is generally well tolerated when you eat it as food. However, the safety data advises caution with concentrated supplements and essential oils — the research on those forms is more limited.

Very few side effects have been reported with medicinal use of tangerine, though a full safety review hasn't been done. Topically, tangerine essential oil has been linked to contact dermatitis in at least one case report.

Since this is a powder supplement (not an oil), topical risk is low unless applied to skin. Pregnancy and lactation safety data for tangerine is not on file in our data.

If you're pregnant, nursing, or planning to become pregnant, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting any new supplement.

Known Interaction Concern · database check
Minor only

Only Minor-severity interactions are documented for these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Tangerine.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Minor.
  • For scale: 644 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

If you take CYP3A4 substrate medications — a broad category that includes blood pressure drugs, cholesterol drugs, immunosuppressants, and others — check your exact medications with your doctor or pharmacist before starting. The documented interaction is minor, and human studies didn't show a clinically meaningful effect, but it's worth confirming your specific drugs are in the clear.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.

This is a single-ingredient powder from a citrus fruit that most of us eat without issue. The interaction data shows only minor theoretical concerns with a very large drug group, and real-world evidence with tangerine juice suggests those risks don't materialize in practice.

If you take any CYP3A4 substrate medications — ask your own doctor or pharmacist to review your specific drugs before you add this.

Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates

In vitro, tangeretin, a constituent of tangerine, induces a 52% increase in the metabolism of midazolam by cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4). This suggests that tangeretin may stimulate CYP3A4 activity. However, in humans, drinking tangerine juice 200 mL slightly delayed the absorption, but did not affect the metabolism, of midazolam, a CYP3A4 substrate. Theoretically, tangerine juice might increase CYP3A4 activity and decrease levels of drugs metabolized by this enzyme. However, this effect is unlikely.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include amitriptyline (Elavil), amiodarone (Cordarone), citalopram (Celexa), felodipine (Plendil), lansoprazole (Prevacid), ondansetron (Zofran), prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone), sertraline (Zoloft), sibutramine (Meridia), and many others.

Midazolam (Versed)

In vitro, tangeretin, a constituent of tangerine, appears to increase the metabolism of midazolam in human liver microsomes by up to 52%. However, in humans, drinking tangerine juice 200 mL slightly delayed the absorption, but did not affect the metabolism, of midazolam. Theoretically, tangerine juice might increase the metabolism and reduce the effects of midazolam. However, this effect is unlikely.

Tangerine Peel Powder by TerraVita Premium Collection: Common Questions

Does Tangerine Peel Powder by TerraVita Premium Collection interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Tangerine Peel Powder has a known interaction with 643 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Tangerine Peel Powder contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Is tangerine powder safe if I eat tangerine fruit normally?
Yes. Tangerine fruit itself is generally well tolerated as food. The safety data does flag that concentrated supplements and essential oils should be used cautiously and with medical advice, so the powder form sits in a middle ground — it's more concentrated than fresh fruit but not an isolated extract. The research on concentrated supplements isn't as thorough, so it's worth a quick conversation with your pharmacist.
Does this interact with my blood pressure or cholesterol medications?
Tangerine may theoretically affect a large group of drugs called CYP3A4 substrates, which includes many blood pressure and cholesterol medications. However, when people actually drank tangerine juice, it didn't meaningfully change how those drugs work. Still, your specific medications might respond differently — use the interaction checker on this page or ask your own doctor or pharmacist to confirm your drugs are in the clear.
Can I take this while pregnant or breastfeeding?
We don't have enough safety data on file to say either way. Since you'd be taking a concentrated supplement rather than eating fresh fruit, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about what's right for you and your baby.
What is tangerine powder supposed to do?
The evidence for tangerine's effectiveness against cancer is insufficient to rate in our data. If you're taking it for a specific reason, ask your doctor or pharmacist whether the science backs that use.
Are there any fillers or other ingredients in here?
No — this product is tangerine powder only, with no other inactive ingredients listed.
