TEST Black Lightning Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking TEST Black Lightning against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. What’s inside
Full disclosure
TEST Black Lightning contains 6 active ingredients. Ashwagandha (KSM-66) is an adaptogenic plant root used for stress and anxiety.
Calcium and calcium D-aspartic acid are mineral forms that support bone strength. Bulbine natalensis stem extract is a plant preparation studied in animal models for potential tissue effects.
Eurycoma longifolia root extract comes from a traditional Southeast Asian plant. Pine extract rounds out the formula.
The product also contains inactive ingredients—natural and artificial flavors, citric acid, malic acid, sucralose, and silicon dioxide—to make it palatable and stable.
Does it work?
Not established
In the data we hold, ashwagandha shows possibly effective ratings for insomnia, anxiety, stress, and generalized anxiety disorder. Calcium is effective for kidney failure, indigestion (dyspepsia), low blood calcium (hypocalcemia), and high potassium (hyperkalemia), and likely effective for osteoporosis.
Eurycoma longifolia is rated possibly effective for sexual desire but possibly ineffective for athletic performance. For bulbine natalensis and pine extract, the evidence is insufficient to rate them, or no effectiveness ratings are established in our data.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Ashwagandha is generally well tolerated short-term in healthy adults, though long-term safety data are limited. The most common side effects are mild—diarrhea, nausea, upset stomach.
It's traditionally thought to risk miscarriage, so it should be avoided in pregnancy; there isn't enough safety information to recommend it while breastfeeding. Calcium is generally safe at recommended doses but can cause belching, constipation, diarrhea, and stomach upset; it's likely safe in pregnancy and lactation at recommended amounts.
Bulbine natalensis lacks human safety data and animal studies suggest possible liver and kidney effects at higher doses—avoid it in pregnancy and breastfeeding. Eurycoma longifolia is generally tolerated short-term but long-term safety is uncertain, and possible hormonal effects mean it should be avoided in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Major interaction found
Check before taking this product if you use dolutegravir, elvitegravir, or intravenous ceftriaxone (Major severity—calcium can severely lower drug levels or cause dangerous interactions). Also verify any use of benzodiazepines, sedatives or sleep aids, blood pressure drugs, diabetes medications, thyroid hormone, immunosuppressants, blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs, heart rhythm or digoxin drugs, testosterone replacement, or propranolol.
No interactions are documented for pine extract in the data we hold.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Major medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product may help with stress and sleep if you have no medication interactions, but it carries several Moderate and Major risks with common drugs. If you take antidiabetes, blood pressure, thyroid, heart, blood thinner, or HIV medications—or immune suppressors—you need to check with us or your pharmacist first.
Even without medications, the quality and long-term safety data are limited, so talk to your pharmacist about whether this is right for you.

TEST Black Lightning by Core Nutritionals Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
TEST Black Lightning by Core Nutritionals contains ingredients with documented interactions affecting multiple medication types.
The most serious concerns are Major-severity interactions from the calcium ingredients (calcium and calcium D-aspartic acid) with HIV integrase inhibitors—dolutegravir, elvitegravir, and the antibiotic ceftriaxone. These calcium forms can significantly reduce drug levels or cause dangerous precipitation, so timing or avoidance may be necessary.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Moderate-severity interactions span several drug categories. Ashwagandha (KSM-66) may increase sedation with CNS depressants, benzodiazepines, and related sedative drugs; it may lower blood pressure with antihypertensive medications and raise the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) with diabetes drugs.
It may also increase thyroid hormone effects and theoretically reduce the effectiveness of immune-suppressing drugs. The calcium ingredients interact with thyroid replacement (levothyroxine), heart rhythm drugs (sotalol), and calcium-regulating topical psoriasis treatments.
Bulbine natalensis stem extract may interfere with blood thinners (anticoagulants and antiplatelet drugs), heart glycoside drugs like digoxin, and testosterone replacement. Eurycoma longifolia root extract can reduce propranolol (a blood pressure and heart drug) effectiveness.
Altogether, these interactions span 1,504 individual medications. We could not check pine extract—no interaction data is held for it.

KSM-66
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, taking ashwagandha with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
There is preliminary clinical evidence suggesting that ashwagandha might lower blood glucose levels. Theoretically, ashwagandha might have additive effects when used with antidiabetes drugs and increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, taking ashwagandha with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Animal research suggests that ashwagandha might lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Theoretically, ashwagandha might have additive effects when used with antihypertensive drugs and increase the risk of hypotension.
Benzodiazepines
Theoretically, taking ashwagandha might increase the sedative effects of benzodiazepines.
There is preliminary evidence that ashwagandha might have an additive effect with diazepam (Valium) and clonazepam (Klonopin). This may also occur with other benzodiazepines.
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, taking ashwagandha might increase the sedative effects of CNS depressants.
Ashwagandha seems to have sedative effects. Theoretically, this may potentiate the effects of barbiturates, other sedatives, and anxiolytics.
Hepatotoxic Drugs
Theoretically, taking ashwagandha with hepatotoxic drugs might increase the risk of liver damage.
Ashwagandha has been linked to cases of acute hepatitis, liver failure, hepatic encephalopathy, autoimmune hepatitis, the need for liver transplantation, and death due to liver failure.
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, taking ashwagandha might decrease the effects of immunosuppressants.
Ashwagandha has demonstrated immunostimulant effects in humans. Animal research has shown that ashwagandha can attenuate the immunosuppression caused by cyclophosphamide.
Thyroid Hormone
Ashwagandha might increase the effects and adverse effects of thyroid hormone.
Concomitant use of ashwagandha with thyroid hormones may cause additive therapeutic and adverse effects. Preliminary clinical research and animal studies suggest that ashwagandha boosts thyroid hormone synthesis and secretion. In one clinical study, ashwagandha increased triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) levels by 41.5% and 19.6%, respectively, and reduced serum TSH levels by 17.4% from baseline in adults with subclinical hypothyroidism.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, ashwagandha might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that ashwagandha extract induces CYP1A2 enzymes.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, ashwagandha might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that ashwagandha extract induces CYP3A4 enzymes.
Serotonergic Drugs
Some animal studies have reported that ashwagandha can enhance serotonergic transmission by altering certain serotonin (5-HT) receptors. However, there is no evidence to suggest that ashwagandha increases the risk of serotonin-related effects, and there have been no published case reports of serotonin syndrome when combined with other serotonergic drugs. Nevertheless, due to the lack of extensive studies on the matter and the fact that ashwagandha appears to affect serotonergic pathways, it would be prudent to exercise caution when combining it with drugs that affect serotonin. Bulbine natalensis (stem) extract
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, combining Bulbine natalensis leaf with drugs that have anticoagulant or antiplatelet activity might increase the risk of bruising and bleeding.
In vitro research shows that Bulbine natalensis ground leaf extract inhibits platelet aggregation.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, Bulbine natalensis stem might reduce the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Bulbine natalensis stem extract slightly induces CYP1A2 mRNA expression and enzyme activity. Theoretically, this may increase the metabolism of CYP1A2 substrates; however, this has not been studied in humans.
Cytochrome P450 2C9 (Cyp2C9) Substrates
Theoretically, Bulbine natalensis stem might reduce the levels and clinical effects of CYP2C9 substrates.

Bulbine natalensis stem may contain cardiac glycosides, although it is unclear if these chemicals are present in clinically relevant concentrations.
P-Glycoprotein Substrates
Theoretically, Bulbine natalensis stem might increase the levels and clinical effects of p-glycoprotein substrates.
In vitro research shows that Bulbine natalensis stem extract induces p-glycoprotein mRNA expression; however, effects on transporter expression were not evaluated.
Testosterone
Theoretically, using Bulbine natalensis stem with testosterone replacement therapy might increase the risk of adverse effects.
Animal research shows that Bulbine natalensis stem can increase testosterone levels.
Eurycoma longifolia (root) extract
Propranolol (Inderal)
Eurycoma longifolia can reduce the levels and clinical effects of propranolol.
A small clinical study in healthy persons shows that taking a single dose of a water-based Eurycoma longifolia extract 200 mg, in combination with a single dose of propranolol 80 mg, reduces the propranolol area under the curve (AUC) by 29%, reduces the peak concentration by 42%, and increases time to peak concentration by 86% when compared with control. Since the elimination half-life of propranolol did not change, it seems that Eurycoma longifolia alters the kinetics of propranolol by decreasing its absorption in the gut, and not by altering its metabolism. It is not known if separating administration will prevent this interaction.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, Eurycoma longifolia might increase levels CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that methanolic Eurycoma longifolia root extract weakly inhibits CYP1A2 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 2A6 (Cyp2A6) Substrates
Theoretically, Eurycoma longifolia might increase levels of CYP2A6 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that methanolic Eurycoma longifolia root extract weakly inhibits CYP2A6 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 2C19 (Cyp2C19) Substrates
Theoretically, Eurycoma longifolia might increase levels of CYP2C19 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that methanolic Eurycoma longifolia root extract weakly inhibits CYP2C19 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Testosterone
Theoretically, Eurycoma longifolia may further increase levels of testosterone.
A clinical study in aging males with testosterone levels below 300 ng/dL shows that taking a specific water extract of Eurycoma longifolia roots (Physta; Biotropics Malaysia) 100-200 mg daily with breakfast for 12 weeks increases total testosterone levels by 8% to 11% when compared with placebo. It is unclear whether this increase would occur in individuals with normal testosterone levels.
Calcium
Ceftriaxone (Rocephin)
Co-administration of intravenous calcium and ceftriaxone can result in precipitation of a ceftriaxone-calcium salt in the lungs and kidneys.
Avoid administering intravenous calcium in any form, such as parenteral nutrition or Lactated Ringers, within 48 hours of intravenous ceftriaxone. Case reports in neonates show that administering intravenous ceftriaxone and calcium can result in precipitation of a ceftriaxone-calcium salt in the lungs and kidneys. In several cases, neonates have died as a result of this interaction. So far there are no reports in adults; however, there is still concern that this interaction might occur in adults.
Dolutegravir (Tivicay)
Calcium seems to reduce levels of dolutegravir.
Advise patients to take dolutegravir either 2 hours before or 6 hours after taking calcium supplements. Pharmacokinetic research suggests that taking calcium carbonate 1200 mg concomitantly with dolutegravir 50 mg reduces plasma levels of dolutegravir by almost 40%. Calcium appears to decrease levels of dolutegravir through chelation.
Elvitegravir (Vitekta)
Calcium seems to reduce levels of elvitegravir.
Advise patients to take elvitegravir either 2 hours before or 2 hours after taking calcium supplements. Pharmacokinetic research suggests that taking calcium along with elvitegravir can reduce blood levels of elvitegravir through chelation.
Aluminum
Calcium citrate might increase aluminum absorption and toxicity. Other types of calcium do not increase aluminum absorption.
Calcium citrate can increase the absorption of aluminum when taken with aluminum hydroxide. The increase in aluminum levels may become toxic, particularly in individuals with kidney disease. However, the effect of calcium citrate on aluminum absorption is due to the citrate anion rather than calcium cation. Calcium acetate does not appear to increase aluminum absorption.
Bictegravir/Emtricitabine/Tenofovir Alafenamide (Biktarvy)
Calcium might decrease levels of bictegravir/emtricitabine/tenofovir alafenamide by reducing its absorption when taken in a fasting state.
Advise patients that bictegravir/emtricitabine/tenofovir alafenamide and calcium can be taken together if taken with food. However, if taken on an empty stomach, bictegravir/emtricitabine/tenofovir alafenamide should not be taken with, or 2 hours after, calcium containing products.
Bisphosphonates
Calcium reduces the absorption of bisphosphonates.
Advise patients to take bisphosphonates at least 30 minutes before calcium, but preferably at a different time of day. Calcium supplements decrease absorption of bisphosphonates.
Calcipotriene (Dovonex)
Taking calcipotriene with calcium might increase the risk for hypercalcemia.
Calcipotriene is a vitamin D analog used topically for psoriasis. It can be absorbed in sufficient amounts to cause systemic effects, including hypercalcemia. Theoretically, combining calcipotriene with calcium supplements might increase the risk of hypercalcemia.
Digoxin (Lanoxin)
Using intravenous calcium with digoxin might increase the risk of fatal cardiac arrhythmias.
Hypercalcemia increases the risk of fatal cardiac arrhythmias with digoxin. However, one retrospective analysis of clinical data suggests that intravenous calcium does not increase the risk of dysrhythmias or mortality in patients receiving digoxin.
Diltiazem (Cardizem, Others)
Theoretically, calcium may reduce the therapeutic effects of diltiazem.
Hypercalcemia can reduce the effectiveness of verapamil in atrial fibrillation. Theoretically, calcium might increase this risk of hypercalcemia and reduce the effectiveness of diltiazem.
Levothyroxine (Synthroid, Others)
Calcium seems to reduce the absorption and effectiveness of levothyroxine.
Advise patients to take levothyroxine and calcium supplements at least 4 hours apart. Calcium reduces levothyroxine absorption, probably by forming insoluble complexes. Calcium carbonate supplements reduce effectiveness of levothyroxine in patients with hypothyroidism.
Lithium
Theoretically, concomitant use of calcium and lithium may increase this risk of hypercalcemia.
Clinical research suggests that long-term use of lithium may cause hypercalcemia in 10% to 60% of patients. Theoretically, concomitant use of lithium and calcium supplements may further increase this risk.
Quinolone Antibiotics
Calcium seems to reduce the absorption of quinolone antibiotics.
Advise patients to take oral quinolones at least 2 hours before or 4-6 hours after calcium supplements or calcium-fortified foods. Taking calcium at the same time as oral quinolones can reduce quinolone absorption. Calcium binds to quinolones in the gut.
Raltegravir (Isentress)
Calcium may reduce levels of raltegravir.
Pharmacokinetic research shows that taking a single dose of calcium carbonate 3000 mg along with raltegravir 400 mg twice daily modestly decreases the mean area under the curve of raltegravir, but the decrease does not necessitate a dose adjustment of raltegravir. However, a case of elevated HIV-1 RNA levels and documented resistance to raltegravir has been reported for a patient taking calcium carbonate 1 gram three times daily plus vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) 400 IU three times daily in combination with raltegravir 400 mg twice daily for 11 months. It is thought that calcium reduced raltegravir levels by chelation, leading to treatment failure.
Sotalol (Betapace)
Calcium seems to reduce the absorption of sotalol.
Advise patients to separate doses by at least 2 hours before or 4-6 hours after calcium. Calcium appears to reduce the absorption of sotalol, probably by forming insoluble complexes.
Tetracycline Antibiotics
Calcium seems to reduce the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics.
Advise patients to take oral tetracyclines at least 2 hours before, or 4-6 hours after calcium supplements. Taking calcium at the same time as oral tetracyclines can reduce tetracycline absorption. Calcium binds to tetracyclines in the gut.
Thiazide Diuretics
Taking calcium along with thiazides might increase the risk of hypercalcemia and renal failure.
Thiazides reduce calcium excretion by the kidneys. Using thiazides along with moderately large amounts of calcium carbonate increases the risk of milk-alkali syndrome (hypercalcemia, metabolic alkalosis, renal failure). Patients may need to have their serum calcium levels and/or parathyroid function monitored regularly.
Verapamil (Calan, Others)
Theoretically, calcium may reduce the therapeutic effects of verapamil.
Hypercalcemia can reduce the effectiveness of verapamil in atrial fibrillation. Theoretically, use of calcium supplements may increase this risk of hypercalcemia and reduce the effectiveness of verapamil.
Calcium Channel Blockers
Intravenous calcium may decrease the effects of calcium channel blockers; oral calcium is unlikely to have this effect.
Intravenous calcium is used to decrease the effects of calcium channel blockers in the management of overdose. Intravenous calcium gluconate has been used before intravenous verapamil (Isoptin) to prevent or reduce the hypotensive effects without affecting the antiarrhythmic effects. But there is no evidence that dietary or supplemental calcium when taken orally interacts with calcium channel blockers.
