What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Tocotrienols 50 mg against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Tocotrienols 50 mg by Swanson
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This product has two active ingredients: delta-tocotrienol and gamma-tocotrienol — both are forms of vitamin E. Tocotrienols are a type of vitamin E that your body uses for antioxidant protection and cellular health.
The softgel capsule also contains gelatin, soybean oil, glycerin, and purified water as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
The evidence is strongest for vitamin E deficiency itself and a rare neurological condition called ataxia with vitamin E deficiency (AVED) — vitamin E is effective for both. For Alzheimer disease, beta-thalassemia, G6PD deficiency, and intracranial hemorrhage, the evidence is less certain but possibly effective.
If you're taking this for general health or a condition not listed here, the data we hold doesn't establish that it works for that purpose.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Vitamin E from food and normal dietary amounts is generally well tolerated. High-dose long-term supplements, like this one, may raise your risk of bleeding and other harms.
Serious side effects are rare but include bleeding, hemorrhagic stroke, and cardiovascular problems. There is some concern about a higher risk of stroke in male smokers taking synthetic vitamin E for years, though other studies have not confirmed this risk.
High doses increase bleeding risk especially if you have a vitamin K deficiency or take blood thinners. For pregnancy, the safety data says possibly safe, but avoid high-dose supplements unless your doctor directs you to take them.
During breastfeeding, normal dietary amounts are fine, but check with your doctor before taking high-dose supplements — the lactation data includes both a likely-safe and possibly-unsafe rating, so personalized advice matters here.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your pharmacist before starting if you take blood thinners (like warfarin), antiplatelet drugs (like aspirin or clopidogrel), chemotherapy drugs (especially alkylating agents or drugs like doxorubicin), cyclosporine, niacin, or selumetinib. Also double-check if you take any medications your liver metabolizes through CYP3A4, since vitamin E may speed up their breakdown.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
If you're deficient in vitamin E or have AVED, this product may help. If you take blood thinners, are on chemotherapy, or take cyclosporine or niacin, you need to check with your pharmacist or doctor first — the interactions are real and could affect how your medications work or your bleeding risk.
High-dose vitamin E isn't for everyone.

Tocotrienols 50 mg by Swanson Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Swanson's Tocotrienols 50 mg contains two forms of vitamin E, and vitamin E does interact with a number of medications.
The most serious concern is with blood thinners (anticoagulants) and antiplatelet drugs — vitamin E can increase bleeding risk by interfering with how your blood clots. This is dose-dependent, meaning higher doses carry greater risk.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Vitamin E also interacts moderately with chemotherapy drugs, both alkylating agents (like cyclophosphamide) and antitumor antibiotics (like doxorubicin). The worry is that vitamin E's antioxidant effect might reduce how well these cancer treatments work.
If you're on chemotherapy, talk to your oncologist before adding this product. It can also increase cyclosporine (an immunosuppressant) levels in your blood, and there's concern it may speed up how your body breaks down other medications processed by your liver (CYP3A4 substrates), potentially making them less effective.
Taking this with niacin (a cholesterol medication) may blunt niacin's beneficial effects on HDL cholesterol.
Altogether, these interactions span 754 individual medications. Use the medication checker below to verify your exact drugs before you start.

Tocotrienols
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Concomitant use of tocotrienols with anticoagulant or antiplatelet agents might increase the risk of bleeding. However, this has not been reported in humans.
Taking tocotrienols orally inhibits experimentally-induced platelet aggregation in humans. Theoretically tocotrienols might increase the risk of bleeding if taken with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs. However, tocotrienols 400-800 mg daily have been used with aspirin and/or clopidogrel for 1 year with no clear cumulative antiplatelet effects and no reports of bleeding.
