Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 2 of its 2 active ingredients.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

Volcarn 2000 Rainbow Sherbet is a liquid supplement with 2 active ingredients: L-carnitine and gamma-butyrobetaine ethyl ester chloride. L-carnitine is an amino acid that plays a role in converting fat to energy in your cells.

The product also contains inactive ingredients — water, phosphoric acid, natural flavors, potassium sorbate, stevia leaf extract, malic acid, sodium benzoate, and monk fruit extract — that provide taste, texture, and preservation.

By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see L-carnitine's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: fat burning and thermogenic energy support.
  • We looked for evidence on: Athletic performance, Exercise-induced muscle damage, Exercise-induced muscle soreness, Obesity, Weight loss, Metabolic rate — and 1 related terms.
  • The closest evidence on file: L-carnitine is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Athletic performance (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: L-carnitine is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Exercise-induced muscle soreness, Obesity, Exercise-induced muscle damage.

L-carnitine is effective for treating L-carnitine deficiency. It's possibly effective for high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia), congestive heart failure, and angina, though the evidence isn't definitive for those uses.

We hold no effectiveness data for gamma-butyrobetaine ethyl ester chloride in our records.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

L-carnitine is generally well tolerated at typical doses, but high doses can cause stomach upset — nausea, diarrhea, heartburn, abdominal pain or cramps — and a fishy body odor. Seizures have been reported rarely.

There isn't enough reliable safety data to recommend this supplement without medical oversight. During pregnancy, safety data isn't on file, so talk with your doctor before using it.

While breastfeeding, the safety isn't well studied, so caution is advised — check with your doctor or pharmacist.

Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — L-carnitine.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs.
  • For scale: 19 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

If you take warfarin, acenocoumarol, or any other blood thinner (anticoagulant), check with your doctor or pharmacist before using this product — L-carnitine may increase their effects and raise your bleeding risk. If you take thyroid hormone replacement, the same applies — L-carnitine might reduce how well it works.

L-Carnitine3 drug types · 19 drugs

Acenocoumarol (Sintrom)

Theoretically, L-carnitine might increase the anticoagulant effects of acenocoumarol.
L-carnitine might enhance the anticoagulant effects of acenocoumarol, an oral anticoagulant similar to warfarin, but shorter-acting. There are at least two case reports of INR elevation with concomitant use. In one case, a 33-year-old male with a previously stable INR had an elevated INR of 4.65 after L-carnitine was started and continued for 10 weeks. INR normalized after discontinuation of the L-carnitine-containing product.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Thyroid Hormone

Theoretically, L-carnitine might decrease the effectiveness of thyroid hormone replacement.
L-carnitine appears to act as a peripheral thyroid hormone antagonist by inhibiting entry of thyroid hormone into the nucleus of cells. Taking L-carnitine also seems to diminish some of the symptoms of hyperthyroidism.

Likelihood Probable Evidence B
Warfarin (Coumadin)

Theoretically, L-carnitine might increase the anticoagulant effects of warfarin.
L-carnitine might increase the anticoagulant effects of acenocoumarol, a shorter-acting oral anticoagulant similar to warfarin. There is not enough information to know whether this interaction occurs with L-carnitine and warfarin.

Volcarn 2000 Rainbow Sherbet by INNOSUPPS: Common Questions

Does Volcarn 2000 Rainbow Sherbet by INNOSUPPS interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Volcarn 2000 Rainbow Sherbet has a known interaction with 19 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Volcarn 2000 Rainbow Sherbet contains 2 active ingredients, and an interaction can come from any of them. We check every ingredient, combine the results into one list per medication, and show which ingredient and mechanism is responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
What is L-carnitine supposed to do?
L-carnitine is an amino acid that helps your body convert fat into energy. It's effective when you have an L-carnitine deficiency, and it's possibly helpful for high cholesterol, heart failure, and chest pain, though evidence for those uses isn't conclusive.
Can I take this if I'm on warfarin (Coumadin)?
Not without checking with your doctor first. L-carnitine may increase warfarin's blood-thinning effects, which could raise your bleeding risk. There are case reports of this happening with acenocoumarol, a similar blood thinner. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.
What about if I take thyroid medication?
L-carnitine may interfere with how thyroid hormone replacement works by blocking it from entering your cells properly. If you're on thyroid medication, discuss this with your doctor or pharmacist before adding this supplement.
What side effects might I experience?
Most common are stomach upset — nausea, diarrhea, heartburn, abdominal pain — and a fishy body odor, especially at higher doses. Seizures have been reported very rarely. If you experience any of these, talk with your doctor or pharmacist.
Is it safe to take while breastfeeding?
The safety while breastfeeding isn't well studied, so caution is advised. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice before using this supplement.
What's gamma-butyrobetaine ethyl ester chloride?
It's the second active ingredient in this product. We don't hold interaction or effectiveness data for it, so we can't tell you how it works or how it might interact with your medications. Your pharmacist may have additional information.
