What’s inside
Full disclosure
Pure Herbs Wild Cherry Bark is a liquid extract containing one active ingredient: Black Cherry Bark Extract. There are no inactive ingredients listed for this product.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
We hold no effectiveness ratings for Black Cherry Bark Extract in our data, so we can't tell you whether evidence supports its use for any particular purpose.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Wild cherry bark is generally considered safe in the small amounts found in over-the-counter cough products. However, the plant contains compounds that can break down into cyanide, especially in large doses — and this is a genuine concern.
Taking large amounts can cause cyanide poisoning, which can be fatal. A documented case involved a woman who drank roughly 300 grams of wild cherries steeped in alcohol; she developed headache, nausea, vomiting, confusion, severe difficulty breathing, and went into a coma before recovering.
The safety data advises against using this product while pregnant or breastfeeding because there isn't enough information to know it's safe. Because of the cyanide risk, avoid large amounts of this extract altogether.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Black Cherry Bark Extract may slow how your liver clears drugs metabolized by the CYP3A4 enzyme (Moderate severity). This hasn't been reported in actual patients yet, but if you take statins, antifungals, or any other medication your doctor has warned about mixing with grapefruit, check it here before you start.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This is a single-ingredient liquid, so it's straightforward — but the real question is dose. Tiny amounts in a cough drop are one thing; larger amounts of this extract carry a genuine cyanide toxicity risk.
Talk with your pharmacist about how much you're planning to take and whether it's right for you. Pregnant people and nursing parents should skip it.

Wild Cherry Bark by Pure Herbs Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Pure Herbs Wild Cherry Bark is a single-ingredient liquid extract that carries one documented interaction category.
Black Cherry Bark Extract can inhibit an enzyme (cytochrome P450 3A4 or CYP3A4) that your liver uses to clear certain medications. In theory, this could raise the blood levels of drugs your body breaks down this way — potentially making them stronger.
However, this interaction hasn't actually been reported in people yet; the evidence comes from lab studies so far.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Although the interaction is listed as Moderate and theoretically affects a wide range of medications (statins for cholesterol, some antifungals, and many others), we emphasize: no human cases have been documented. That said, if you take any regular medications, especially ones your doctor warned you about mixing with grapefruit, run them through the search tool on this page to check your exact drugs before starting this product.
Altogether, these interactions span 633 individual medications.

Black Cherry Bark Extract
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
In vitro research suggests that wild cherry can inhibit cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) enzymes. Theoretically, wild cherry might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4. However, so far, this interaction has not been reported in humans.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), fexofenadine (Allegra), triazolam (Halcion), and others.
