Clinical
Icosapent ethyl is used to reduce the amount of triglycerides (a fat-like substance) in the blood. It is also used to decrease the risk of a heart attack, a stroke, or other heart problems that require hospitalization in certain adults. Icosapent ethyl is in a class of medications called antilipemic or lipid-regulating agents. Icosapent ethyl may work by decreasing the amount of triglycerides and other fats made in the liver.

- Take it by mouth twice a day with food, exactly as your label says. Swallow the capsules whole. Don't crush, chew, dissolve or open them.
- Some people notice muscle or joint aches, constipation, leg swelling, gout or a sore throat. Let me or your doctor know if these bother you.
- Call about a racing, fluttering or irregular heartbeat, or any unusual bleeding. Stop the medicine and get help right away if you have signs of an allergic reaction.
