Clinical
CankerMelts is an over-the-counter lozenge containing benzocaine, a local anesthetic. This product is marketed as an OTC monograph drug, meaning it follows FDA's established rules for this category rather than undergoing individual application review. Benzocaine is commonly used in oral lozenges to numb minor mouth irritations and sore throat discomfort. The lozenge dissolves in the mouth to deliver the active ingredient to the affected area.
