🩺 Clinical
Dextromethorphan is used to temporarily relieve cough caused by the common cold, the flu, or other conditions. Dextromethorphan will relieve a cough but will not treat the cause of the cough or speed recovery. Dextromethorphan is in a class of medications called antitussives. It works by decreasing activity in the part of the brain that causes coughing.
Read the full MedlinePlus article ↗This is an oral liquid-filled capsule that combines four active ingredients commonly used to manage cold and cough symptoms. Acetaminophen is typically used to reduce fever and relieve pain, while dextromethorphan functions as a cough suppressant. Guaifenesin works as an expectorant to help thin mucus and make coughs more productive, and phenylephrine serves as a nasal decongestant to help relieve congestion. This is an over-the-counter monograph product, meaning it is marketed under FDA's established rules for this drug category.
