Clinical
Acetaminophen is used to relieve mild to moderate pain and to reduce fever. Acetaminophen is in a class of medications called analgesics (pain relievers) and antipyretics (fever reducers). It works by changing the way the body senses pain and by cooling the body.
Read the full MedlinePlus article ↗This is an over-the-counter coated tablet taken by mouth that combines four active ingredients commonly used to address multiple cold and flu symptoms. Acetaminophen is typically used to reduce fever and relieve aches and pain. Dextromethorphan is a cough suppressant commonly found in cold products. Guaifenesin functions as an expectorant, helping to thin mucus. Phenylephrine hydrochloride is a nasal decongestant usually included to help relieve sinus and head congestion. This is an OTC monograph product, meaning it is marketed under FDA's established category rules rather than as an individually reviewed drug application.
