Clinical
This is an over-the-counter topical ointment marketed under FDA's OTC monograph guidelines for hemorrhoidal use. Mineral oil and petrolatum function as emollients and lubricants, helping to soften and protect the affected area. Phenylephrine hydrochloride is a decongestant that is typically used to help reduce swelling and discomfort associated with hemorrhoids. The ointment is applied directly to the skin in the rectal area.
