Answer

Thanks for reaching out to us! This is a great question.

When looking for potential drug interactions, it is always a good idea to break down what all of the individual drugs in question are, especially when we are talking about branded products.

Branded products, like the Mucinex family of branded products, often contain different drugs amongst all their offerings, and many contain multiple drugs.

For example, Mucinex, Mucinex DM, Mucinex-D, and Mucinex FastMax all contain different combinations of drugs.

What Is In Mucinex Nightshift?

So, let's take a look at Mucinex Nightshift First. There are a few different Mucinex Nightshift products:

  • Mucinex Nightshift Cold & Flu
  • Mucinex Nightshift Severe Cold & Flu
  • Mucinex Nightshift Sinus

These products all contain:

The sinus and severe products also contain the nasal decongestant phenylephrine.

What Is In Mucinex Expectorant?

Mucinex, what I'll call the 'original' Mucinex product, contains the expectorant guaifenesin. This is the only active ingredient the 'original' Mucinex contains.

Taking Mucinex Expectorant With Mucinex Nightshift

Mucinex and Mucinex Nightshift side by side

You can safely take Mucinex (the original product that only contains guaifenesin) and Mucinex Nightshift products together. They contain different drugs, as you can see in the image I have above that shows each package. The drug contained in Mucinex (guaifenesin) does not interact with the drugs in 'Mucinex Nightshift'.

I do want to mention though that you want to avoid taking 'Mucinex DM' with 'Mucinex Nightshift' however since both contain the cough suppressant dextromethorphan.

Final Words

Thanks again for your question! We're always more than happy to help out.
