  • There are no reported interactions between Airduo and alcohol. However, alcohol may worsen asthma symptoms in general.

Answer

Hello and thanks for your question!

There is no specific interaction between Airduo (fluticasone propionate / Salmeterol) and alcohol.

However, there are still concerns with drinking alcohol if you have been diagnosed with asthma.

Studies show that alcohol has been reported to make asthma symptoms worse. It is even classified as an 'asthma trigger' by some sources and can increase the risk of exacerbations occurring.

One such study reports the following:

Alcoholic drinks, and particularly wines, appear to be important triggers for asthmatic responses. Sensitivity to the sulfite additives in wines seems likely to play an important role in many of these reactions. Sensitivities of individuals to salicylates present in wines may also play a role
J Allergy Clin Immunol . 2000 Mar;105(3):462-7

Another study states:

Emergency physicians should counsel asthmatic patients to avoid alcoholic beverages because they may cause an exacerbation of asthma.
Am J Emerg Med . 2001 Oct;19(6):501-3

So, overall, the point here is that there is no interaction between alcohol and Airduo (alcohol won't interfere with the medicine), but, in a general sense, alcohol has been linked to worsening asthma symptoms.

It is important to take your medication as prescribed. If you are due for your next dose, and you have had an alcoholic drink recently, it is fine to take your Airduo. They don't interfere with each other.
