Concomitant use of ALfentanil and a MAO inhibitor may result in severe and unpredictable potentiation of the MAO inhibitor and may cause serotonin syndrome or opioid toxicity (eg, respiratory depression, coma). If ALfentanil is administered to patients who have received MAO inhibitors within 14 days, it is recommended that appropriate monitoring be used and to have vasodilators and beta-blockers available for the treatment of hypertension1.
