Diminished effectiveness of metoclopramide and the dopaminergic agent

Interaction Deep Dive

Concomitant use of metoclopramide and dopaminergic agents should be avoided as this may result in reduced effectiveness of dopaminergic agents due to the antagonistic dopaminergic effect of metoclopramide2 and resulting exacerbation of Parkinson symptoms. It may also decrease the efficacy of metoclopramide. Concomitant use should be avoided. If coadministered, monitor for decreased efficacy 1 and worsening of extrapyramidal movements, rigidity, tremor, or gait disturbances.
