Bromocriptine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Adrafinil interacts with.

Theoretically, adrafanil might reduce levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
Adrafinil is a precursor to the stimulant prescription drug modafinil. Modafinil has been shown to weakly induce CYP3A4 activity.

Here's the gist for bromocriptine (Parlodel). Your liver clears it largely through an enzyme called CYP3A4. Adrafinil turns into modafinil in your body, and modafinil can mildly speed up that same enzyme. In theory, that could push your bromocriptine out a little faster, leaving slightly less of it working.

If that happened, you might notice your symptoms creeping back, like a return of nipple discharge or irregular periods if you're treating high prolactin, or less steady control of Parkinson's symptoms. The good news: this is a theoretical concern based only on how the drug behaves, not on real patient reports, and modafinil's effect on this enzyme is weak. Still, please loop in your doctor or pharmacist before combining them, and never adjust your bromocriptine on your own.

What Is Bromocriptine Used For?

Brand name: Parlodel

Bromocriptine mesylate tablets and capsules (sold as Parlodel and generics) treat conditions caused by too much prolactin in the blood — including missed periods, unwanted breast milk production, infertility, and hypogonadism (low sex-hormone function). They are also used for prolactin-secreting pituitary tumors (adenomas), acromegaly (excess growth hormone), and the signs and symptoms of Parkinson's disease, often alongside levodopa.

Cycloset — a specific bromocriptine tablet formulation — is separately approved as an add-on to diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes. Cycloset should not be used for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
