Theoretically, adrafinil might reduce the effects of antihypertensive drugs.
Adrafinil is a precursor to the stimulant prescription drug modafinil. Modafinil has been shown to increase diastolic and systolic blood pressure. Retrospective analyses show that patients taking modafinil had a small but increased rate of requiring new antihypertensive drugs or increased use of antihypertensive drugs when compared with placebo.

Here's the gist with this combo. Your body turns adrafinil into modafinil, a stimulant that can nudge your blood pressure and heart rate up a bit. Propranolol works in the opposite direction, slowing your heart and relaxing blood vessels to bring pressure down. So adrafinil could partly work against what propranolol is trying to do, possibly making your numbers a little harder to control or your heart rate a touch faster.

I want to be honest about how strong this concern is: it's theoretical, based on how these compounds behave rather than firm studies in people taking propranolol. For most folks any effect is likely small. Still, since you're using propranolol for a real reason (blood pressure, heart, migraines, or tremor), please run this past your doctor or pharmacist before combining them.

Here's the situation with these two together. Once your liver turns adrafinil into modafinil, that modafinil can slow down a liver enzyme called CYP2C19, which is one of the pathways that helps clear propranolol from your body. In theory, that could let propranolol build up a bit more than usual.

If levels climb, you might notice more of propranolol's typical effects: a slower heart rate, lower blood pressure, lightheadedness, tiredness, or cold hands and feet. I want to be honest though, this is a theoretical concern based on lab data, not real-world reports, so it may not amount to much. Still, since adrafinil is unregulated and hard on the liver, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Here's the gist for these two together. Your body turns adrafinil into modafinil, and modafinil may slightly speed up a liver enzyme called CYP1A2. That same enzyme is one of the main ways your body clears propranolol. So in theory, pairing them could push propranolol out of your system a bit faster, which might soften how well it works.

If that happened, you could notice your blood pressure or heart rate creeping back up, more tremor, or returning migraines or chest pain, depending on why you take it. I want to be honest though: this is theoretical, based on lab data, not real patient reports, so it may not amount to much. Still, please loop in your doctor or pharmacist before combining them, especially since adrafinil itself is unregulated and hard on the liver.

What Is Propranolol (Cardiovascular) Used For?

Brand names: Inderal LA, Inderal, Angilol, Syprol, Inderal Injection, Half-Inderal LA, Bedranol SR, Half Beta Prograne, Beta Prograne, Lopranol LA, Slo-Pro, InnoPran XL

This intravenous (IV) form of propranolol is used in hospital or clinical settings to treat dangerous heart rhythm problems. It is generally reserved for life-threatening arrhythmias (abnormal heart rhythms) or those that occur during anesthesia.

Specific conditions it treats include fast heart rates coming from the upper chambers of the heart (supraventricular tachycardia), certain arrhythmias caused by digitalis toxicity, dangerous ventricular rhythms that haven't responded to other treatments, and fast heart rates caused by excess adrenaline-like substances during surgery.
