Adrafinil is a precursor to the stimulant prescription drug modafinil. Modafinil has been shown to weakly induce CYP3A4 activity.

Here's the gist for your endometriosis medicine, Orilissa (elagolix). Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help process elagolix. Adrafinil turns into modafinil in your body, and modafinil can mildly speed up that same enzyme. In theory, that could clear elagolix out a little faster and leave less of it working, which might mean weaker control of your pelvic pain, painful periods, or other endometriosis symptoms.

I want to be honest about the strength of this one: it's based on how these drugs behave on paper, not on solid studies in people, so the real-world effect may be small or unnoticeable. Still, since adrafinil is unregulated and rough on the liver, please run it by your doctor or pharmacist before combining the two.

Orilissa (elagolix) is approved to manage moderate to severe pain caused by endometriosis — a condition where tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus, causing pelvic pain, cramping, and pain during sex.

Because bone loss is a known risk, how long you can take Orilissa depends on your dose and your individual health situation. Your prescriber will choose the lowest effective dose and limit your treatment duration accordingly.
