Tetrabenazine causes a small increase in the corrected QT interval. As the degree of prolongation increases, QT prolongation can develop into torsade de pointes-type VT. The concomitant use of tetrabenazine with other class IA antiarrhythmic drugs known for QT prolongation (eg, procainamide, hydroquinidine, disopyramide) should be avoided1. In a randomized, double-blind, placebo controlled crossover study of healthy subjects, the effect of a single 25 mg or 50 mg dose of tetrabenazine on the QT interval was studied with moxifloxacin as a positive control. The 50 mg dose of tetrabenazine caused an approximate 8 millisecond mean increase in QT 1.
