Torsemide falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Agar interacts with.

Agar forms a thick gel, which may disrupt the absorption of nutrients and medications. Animal research suggests that consuming a diet consisting of 5% to 10% agar alters the absorption of nutrients from the diet. In one study, consuming a diet composed of 10% agar reduced the absorption of all evaluated minerals. Theoretically, agar may also impair the absorption of oral drugs.

Here's the simple version: when you swallow agar, it soaks up water and turns into a thick gel in your gut. The worry is that this gel could trap part of your Torsemide tablet and keep it from being absorbed the way it should. If less of your water pill gets into your bloodstream, it may not work as well, so you might notice more fluid buildup, swelling in your legs, or blood pressure that creeps back up.

I want to be honest about the evidence though. This is mostly theoretical, based on how agar behaves and some animal feeding studies, not real-world cases with Torsemide. Small food amounts of agar (like in a dessert) are unlikely to matter. If you take it as a concentrated fiber supplement, separate it from your Torsemide by a few hours and check with your pharmacist first.

What Is Torsemide Used For?

Torsemide tablets are used to treat edema — excess fluid buildup causing swelling — associated with heart failure, renal disease, or hepatic disease. Removing that extra fluid can relieve swelling and make breathing easier.

Torsemide tablets are also used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of serious cardiovascular events, including strokes and heart attacks. It can be used alone or alongside other blood pressure medications.
