Alpha-lipoic Acid + Tivozanib Hydrochloride
Tivozanib Hydrochloride brand name: Fotivda.
Alpha-lipoic Acid has a moderate interaction with Tivozanib Hydrochloride. Theoretically, alpha-lipoic acid may have antiplatelet effects and may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
Why this applies to Tivozanib Hydrochloride
Tivozanib Hydrochloride falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Alpha-lipoic Acid interacts with.
In vitro, alpha-lipoic acid inhibits platelet aggregation.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for anyone taking tivozanib (Fotivda) alongside alpha-lipoic acid. Tivozanib is a kinase inhibitor for advanced kidney cancer, and one of its known side effects is a higher chance of bleeding (think nosebleeds, easy bruising, or bleeding gums). The concern on file is that alpha-lipoic acid might have a mild blood-thinning effect of its own, so stacking the two could, in theory, nudge that bleeding risk up a bit.
I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is. It comes only from lab (test tube) studies showing alpha-lipoic acid can slow platelets from clumping, not from real-world patient reports. So it's a theoretical caution, not a sure thing. Still, since bleeding already matters with tivozanib, please run any alpha-lipoic acid supplement past your oncologist or pharmacist first.

About Alpha-lipoic Acid
What is Alpha-lipoic Acid?
- Diabetic nerve pain (neuropathy)
- Blood sugar support in diabetes
- Antioxidant support
- Liver health

Alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) is an antioxidant made naturally by the body and found in small amounts in foods. It is most studied for diabetic nerve pain, where some evidence suggests it may help, but evidence for most other uses is limited.
