Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first.
Asian Water Plantain and Spinosad
We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.
No Known Interaction Found
We did not find a documented interaction between Spinosad and Asian Water Plantain in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.
If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.
Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Spinosad
Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Spinosad is filed under a single classification — topical drugs. Asian Water Plantain has documented interactions with 1 drug class — the most serious being nephrotoxic drugs (minor) — and none of Spinosad’s classifications are among them.
Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

See Every Supplement That Interacts With Spinosad
This page covers Asian Water Plantain only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Spinosad page lists 3 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.
The most serious there right now: Dimethylsulfoxide (dmso) (moderate), Turpentine Oil (moderate) and Alchemilla (minor).
By severity: 2 moderate · 1 minor.
From our pharmacist’s overview on the Spinosad page
“Spinosad (Natroba) is a lotion applied to the scalp to kill head lice, and because it works on the skin rather than inside the body, its interaction list is short. All three supplement ingredients on file, two moderate and one minor with nothing rated major, are things people also put on their skin.”

About Asian Water Plantain
What is Asian Water Plantain?
- Promoting urination (diuretic)
- Fluid retention and swelling
- Urinary discomfort
- Cholesterol and heart health support
- Kidney and bladder support
Asian water plantain (Ze Xie) is a rhizome long used in traditional Chinese medicine, mainly as a diuretic and for fluid retention. Modern evidence is mostly limited to laboratory and animal studies, so its benefits in people are not well proven, and quality human safety data are lacking. Talk with a pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Alisma plantago-aquatica · Alismataceae · Dried rhizome (root-like stem), known as Rhizoma Alismatis or Ze Xie · Dried sliced rhizome, powders, decoctions (teas), capsules, and as part of multi-herb traditional Chinese medicine formulas
An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Asian Water Plantain is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Asian Water Plantain record says about it on its own.
Asian Water Plantain: dosing
There is no well-established standardized dose for Asian water plantain as a supplement. In traditional Chinese medicine, the dried rhizome is typically used as part of a multi-herb formula prepared by a trained practitioner, not taken alone. If you use a commercial product, follow the directions on the label and do not exceed the recommended amount. Do not use it as a substitute for prescribed diuretics or other proven treatments.
